Andro Knel
Andro Charles Willem Knel (8 October 1967 – 7 June 1989) was a Dutch footballer. During his career he served Sparta Rotterdam and NAC Breda. He died at the age of 21, when on 7 June 1989 he was killed in the Surinam Airways Flight PY764 air crash in Paramaribo. Born in Rotterdam, Knel moved from Rotterdam to The Hague (Den Haag) with his family when he was 10 years old. He played in the youth squads of HMSH, DWO, ADO and FC Den Haag before making the switch back to Rotterdam when he moved to Sparta Rotterdam. He made his professional debut in the 1986–87 season, aged 19. He loved Jamaican reggae and his dreadlocks combined with his position of attacking midfielder made many people compare him with Ruud Gullit who also had dreadlocks in those days. Hans Verèl
Hans Verèl (21 April 1953 – 9 November 2019) was a football defender and midfielder from the Netherlands, who played for Sparta Rotterdam, SVV and FC Den Bosch. Playing career Verèl made his debut for Sparta on 20 May 1973 against Den Bosch, but only managed to play one league game for the club. In 1976 he left for SVV. Managerial career A persistent injury ended his career while playing for Den Bosch in 1978, and he became an assistant coach at the club. In 1982 he became head coach alongside general manager Ad Zonderland and they won promotion with Den Bosch to the Eredivisie in 1983. Surinam Airways Flight 764 was an international scheduled passenger flight from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol in the Netherlands to Paramaribo-Zanderij International Airport in Suriname on a Surinam Airways DC-8-62. On Wednesday 7 June 1989, the flight crashed during approach to Paramaribo-Zanderij, killing 176 of the 187 on board. It is the deadliest aviation disaster in Suriname's history. Investigation revealed significant deficiencies in the crew's training and judgement. They knowingly attempted to land using an inappropriate navigation signal and ignored alarms warning them of an impending crash. The safety issues stemming from the incident were of such concern that the United States National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) issued safety recommendations to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
