Andrew Soutar
Andrew Soutar (1879 – 1941) was a British novelist and journalist. Biography Born Edward Andrew Stagg, Soutar married Elspeth Soutar Swinton in 1907 at Prestwich, Lancashire adopting the name Soutar shortly after. Soutar was a correspondent, but is better known today for his novels, which were often serialized in newspapers. He also wrote pulp adventure stories for magazines.Brooker and Thacker p. 201 Soutar's stories proved very popular with filmmakers, with a number being made into films during the silent era. Arthur Hoyt
Arthur Hoyt (March 19, 1874 – January 4, 1953) was an American film character actor who appeared in more than 275 films in his 34-year film career, about a third of them silent films. Career Born in Georgetown, Colorado, in 1874, Hoyt made his Broadway debut in 1905 in ''The Prince Consort''. He also appeared in Ferenc Molnár's ''The Devil'' in 1908, and made his final Broadway appearance in ''The Great Name'' in 1911. Hoyt made the silent comedy short ''The Scrub Lady'' in 1914, but his film acting career did not begin in earnest until 1916 when he appeared in another short, ''The Heart of a Show Girl''. From that time until 1944, each year a film was released in which Hoyt had acted – and frequently up to a dozen or so. Albert Parker (May 11, 1885 – August 10, 1974) was an American film director, producer, screenwriter and actor. He directed 36 films between 1917 and 1938. In the early 1930s Parker left Hollywood for England where he continued to direct films and also opened an actors' agency office. One of his later clients in the 1960s was actress Helen Mirren. Edgar Lewis (July 22, 1869 – May 21, 1938) was an American director. Career He began his career as a stage actor and entered the film industry in 1911 as an actor, making his directorial debut two years later. Specializing in action-adventure films and westerns, he directed dozens of pictures between 1913 and 1930, when he left directing and returned to his first love, acting. Most of his films during the sound era were in bit parts or uncredited roles. He appeared in his final film, '' Riding Wild'' in 1935 and retired. He died in Los Angeles in 1938. Walter West (director)
Walter Alabaster West (9 November 1885 – 3 July 1958) was an English people, English film director and Film producer, producer. He was a partner in the film production company Broadwest Films. Early life Walter West was born in Cookham, Berkshire on 11 September 1885. His early silent films, some of which are in the collection of the BFI National Archive, include ''The Merchant of Venice'' (1915). He owned extensive film studios, one of the largest being the glass studios at Walthamstow, London, purchased from Cunard Films. With George Broadbridge (later Lord Broadbridge), he formed the Broadwest Films Company. Films made by Broadwest were not only shown in the UK but exported internationally, including India, New Zealand, Scandinavia and the US.
