Elfrida Andrée
Elfrida Andrée (19 February 1841 – 11 January 1929), was a Swedish organist, composer, and conductor. A 1996 recording on the Caprice label features Andrée's piano quintet, along with a piano sonata, the string quartet in D minor, and vocal music. She was a sister of Swedish opera singer-soprano Fredrika Stenhammar. Life and career Andrée was born in Visby to the doctor Andreas Andrée. She was the pupil of Ludvig Norman and Niels Wilhelm Gade. Her sister was the singer Fredrika Stenhammar. An activist in the Swedish women's movement, she was one of the first female organists to be officially appointed in Scandinavia. She began work in Stockholm in 1861 and became the organist at Gothenburg Cathedral in 1867. In 1897 she was named leader of the Gothenburg Workers Institute Concerts, establishing her reputation as the first Swedish woman to conduct a symphony orchestra. Karl Andree
Karl Andree (20 October 1808 – 10 August 1875) was a German geographer. Biography Andree was born in Braunschweig. He was educated at Jena, Göttingen, and Berlin. After having been implicated in a students' political agitation he became a journalist, and in 1851 founded the newspaper '' Bremer Handelsblatt''. From 1855, however, he devoted himself entirely to geography and ethnography, working successively at Leipzig and at Dresden. During the American Civil War, he advocated the cause of the secessionists. In 1862 he founded the important geographical periodical ''Globus''. He died at Wildungen. George Andree
George W. Andree (February 7, 1879 – October 5, 1934) was an American college football coach for Georgia Tech in 1902. Andree was born in Manistee, Michigan, but grew up in Scottville, Michigan where his parents owned the town's first hotel. He was deaf and attended Gallaudet College (now Gallaudet University), a college established for students with hearing and speaking disabilities. He graduated from the school in 1902. He was considered a star athlete for Gallaudet and played four years as halfback on the football team and as catcher for three years on the baseball team. He was captain of the Gallaudet baseball team in both 1900 and 1901. The 1901 football team had Gilbert O. Erickson and Andree in the backfield. John Andree (physician)
John Andree (1699? – 4 February 1785) was a British physician. Andree's place of birth is unknown. He was M.D. Rheims, 1739, and licentiate of the College of Physicians, London, 1741. Andree practised in London and wrote several books, but is chiefly known for his connection with the London Hospital, first called the London Infirmary, which he was chiefly concerned in founding in 1740, and of which he was the first and for some time the only physician. He resigned this office and retired from practice in 1764, and died 4 February 1785. Andree was an advocate of the practice of inoculation for the small-pox. John Andree (surgeon)
John Andree, junior ( fl. 1790), was an English surgeon. Life Andree was born about 1740, the son of Dr. John Andree, senior, to whom one of his books is dedicated. He was apprenticed to Mr. Grindall, senior surgeon to the London Hospital, and in 1766 he appears as a lecturer on anatomy in London, and surgeon to the Magdalen Hospital, and practising in Carey Street, Chancery Lane. In 1780 he was a candidate for the surgeoncy to the London Hospital, but was defeated by William Blizard. In 1781 he became surgeon to the Finsbury Dispensary, and in 1784 to St. Clement Danes workhouse. About the year 1798 he took the degree of M.D., though it does not appear in what university, and afterwards practised for some years in Hertford, but afterwards returned to London.
