Andrea Beck (born October 25, 1956) is a Canadian illustrator living in Unionville, Ontario, Unionville, who is well known for her best-selling ''Elliot Moose'' books and the spin-off ''Elliot Moose (TV series), Elliot Moose'' television show, which aired in Canada and the US for ten years. Beck's characters are loved for their sweetness and charm and her books generally model friendship and community. Unionville, Ontario
Unionville is a suburban district and former village in Markham, Ontario, Canada, 2 km (2.5 mi) west of Markham Village (the City of Markham's historic downtown), and 33 km (20.5 mi) northeast of Downtown Toronto. The boundaries of Unionville are not well-defined. Several neighbourhoods claim to be part of it however, this has been disputed between the various wards. Unionville was founded north of 16th Avenue in 1794, and many of the farms on and around Kennedy Road. The Unionville Ratepayers Association designated a newer street, Rodick Road, as its western boundary, in the 1980s. ''The Waiting Dog'' is an illustrated book written and illustrated by sisters Carolyn and Andrea Beck. It was published in 2003 by Kids Can Press of Toronto, although it is not currently listed on their website. It is classified as for ages 8 and upAndreabeck.comdescribes the book as “for older readers” and notes that it is “not currently available.” Amazon.ca has limited “new” copies of the book available from the seller “Carolyn Beck.” Plot The book opens with a sticker on the cover with a warning saying: “Warning! Do you have the guts to read this book?” then continues on to describe a dogs desire to eat the mailman. The prose uses rhyming verse to describe in detail the dog’s fantasies, and the gory illustrations graphically depict everything from the mailman’s disembowelment to the dog eating his brain.
