Andrea Bartolini
Andrea Bartolini (born November 1968) is an Italian former professional motocross racer. He competed in the Motocross World Championships from 1988 to 2003. Bartolini is notable for winning the 1999 500cc motocross world championship. Motocross racing career Born in Imola, Italy, Bartolini competed for the Yamaha motocross team run by former world champion Michele Rinaldi. He finished fifth in the 500cc motocross world championships in 1997 and 1998 before winning the title in 1999. In 2003, he placed third in the 125cc motocross world championship. Bartolini was a member of two victorious Italian Motocross des Nations teams, winning the event in 1999 with teammates Alessio Chiodi and Claudio Federici then, in 2002 with teammates Chiodi and Alessandro Puzar. Motocross is a form of off-road motorcycle racing held on enclosed off-road circuits. The sport evolved from motorcycle trials competitions held in the United Kingdom. History Motocross first evolved in Britain from motorcycle trials competitions, such as the Auto-Cycle Clubs's first quarterly trial in 1909 and the Scottish Six Days Trial that began in 1912. Motocross World Championship
FIM Motocross World Championship is the premier championship of motocross racing, organized by the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM), divided into two distinct classes: MXGP and MX2. Race duration is 30 minutes plus two laps per race. The series runs 18 events with two races per class at each round. History The FIM Motocross World Championship is a worldwide motocross series sanctioned by the F.I.M. It was inaugurated in 1957 using a 500 cc engine displacement formula. In 1962 a 250cc class was added and in 1975, a 125cc class was introduced. Prior to 1957, the championship was known as the European Championship. Michele Rinaldi (motorcyclist)
Michele Rinaldi (born 9 March 1959 in Parma) is an Italian former professional motocross racer and current motorcycle race team manager. He competed in the Motocross World Championships from 1976 to 1987. Rinaldi is notable for being the first Italian competitor to win an FIM motocross world championship and, for the numerous world championships achieved as a motocross team manager. Biography Rinaldi began competing in the 125cc motocross world championships in 1976, finishing in the top three for four consecutive years between 1980 and 1983, first for the Gilera team, then for the Suzuki team. In 1984, he finally captured the 125 title, becoming the first Italian to win a motocross world championship. He moved up to the 250 class with his best result being a second place in the 1986 world championship behind Jacky Vimond. He retired in 1987 after having competed in the Paris to Dakar rally. Alessio Chiodi (born 17 March 1973 in Salò) is an Italian former professional motocross racer. He competed in the Motocross World Championships from 1993 to 2009. Chiodi is notable for winning three consecutive FIM 125cc motocross world championships. Biography In 1993 Chiodi finished eighth in the 125cc motocross world championship. The following year he improved to second in the 125cc motocross world championship, 48 points behind Bobby Moore. He repeated his second place result in the 1995 125cc motocross world championship, this time by only three points to fellow Italian Alessandro Puzar. Chiodi moved to the 250cc motocross world championship for the 1996 season where he finished the season in 16th place. Alessandro "Alex" Puzar (born 19 November 1968) is an Italian former professional motocross racer. He competed in the Motocross World Championships from 1988 to 2009. Puzar is notable for being a two-time motocross world champion. Biography Puzar began his motocross Grand Prix career in 1988 riding a KTM. Supermoto
Supermoto is a form of motorcycle racing held on race tracks that alternate between three kinds of track surfaces: the hard packed dirt of flat track, the irregular jumps and obstacles of motocross, and the paved tarmac of road racing. Supermoto was originally conceived by Gavin Trippe in 1979 as a segment of the TV show Wide World of Sports. It was something like an all-star game, in which the best riders from the three separate genres of motorcycle racing could temporarily leave their normal race class to come together and compete for the title of best all around racer. Today supermoto is a distinct genre of its own and riders in the other classes do not routinely cross over into supermoto. Races are commonly held on road racing or medium-sized go-kart tracks with an off-road section in the infield.
