Andre Harrell
Andre O’Neal Harrell (September 26, 1960 – May 7, 2020) was an American record executive, media proprietor, and former rapper. He formed the short-lived East Coast hip hop duo Dr. Jeckyll & Mr. Hyde with Alonzo Brown in 1980; they signed with Profile Records the following year. After disbanding in 1986, he founded the record label Uptown Records that same year, which saw commercial success in contemporary R&B, new jack swing, and hip hop music releases into the coming decade. The label entered a distribution deal with MCA Records and signed artists including Jodeci, Heavy D & the Boyz, Mary J. Blige, Guy, and Al B. Jodeci ( ) is an American Contemporary R&B, R&B quartet consisting of members DeVanté Swing, Dalvin DeGrate, Mr. Dalvin, K-Ci, and K-Ci & JoJo, JoJo. Formed in 1988 in Charlotte, North Carolina, Jodeci began as a duo of DeVanté Swing and JoJo but later each added their brothers. Tayster And Rojac Records
Tay-ster and Rojac Records was a record label originally founded by purported gangster Fat Jack Taylor as Rojac Records in 1957 as a soul and R&B label, releasing, among other artists, a number of records by Big Maybelle. Rojac Records ceased operations in 1972 but was briefly revived as Tay-ster and Rojac Records, operating out of offices located above the Harlem World Disco nightclub from 1979 until 1984. During this latter phase the label released Disco and early Hip Hop records, among them Lovebug Starski's first single produced by David MacDonald nicknamed "Mighty Whitey".
