Anders Beer (shipowner)
Anders Beer (15 January 1801 – 24 January 1863) was a Norwegian ship-owner and tanner. He was born in Flekkefjord as a son of ship-owner and consul Christopher Beer (1770–1839) and Anne Malene Tjørsvaag (1772–1820). He was a younger brother of Jens Henrik Beer, and a grandson of Jens Henrik Beer, Sr. He attended Christianssand Cathedral School, and also stayed in France for some time before becoming a businessman in his hometown. Like many others in the town, he made a living out of the herring fishing industry as well as shipbuilding. He also operated a small tobacco factory and a mill in the district Tjørsvågstranden. After 1838 the herring fishing in South Norway declined rapidly, and Beer sold his ships and developed small industry at Tjørsvågstranden. He opened an oil press (linseed oil and other types), a sawmill, a bakery and a tannery. is a municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Lister. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town of Flekkefjord. The villages of Sira, Gyland, Rasvåg, Kirkehavn, and Åna-Sira are located in Flekkefjord. Flekkefjord is the westernmost municipality of the geographical region of Sørlandet. Anders Beer Wilse
Anders Beer Wilse (12 June 1865 – 21 February 1949) was a Norway, Norwegian photographer who documented Norway in the early to mid-20th century and also worked in the United States. Wilse was born in Flekkefjord, but grew up in Kragerø and decided early to become a sailor. After having graduated with a technical degree from the technical school in Horten in 1882, Wilse emigrated to the United States in 1884. He did not find work in the beginning, but eventually settled in Seattle working for the United States Geological Survey. He is reported to have acquired his first camera in 1886. He opened a photography store in Seattle in 1897, after having visited Norway, and married Helen Marie Hutchinson. In 1900, his wife and children moved to Norway, and Wilse himself joined them, opening a photography store in Oslo, Christiania in 1901, after 17 years in the United States. Johan Andreas Kraft
Johan Andreas Kraft (25 March 1808 – 1896) was a Norwegian physician and politician. He served as a deputy representative to the Parliament of Norway in the term 1862–1864, representing the urban constituency of Flekkefjord. He sat through only one term. He was mayor of Flekkefjord in 1842, 1858 and 1859. He worked as a physician in Flekkefjord from 1834, and remained there for fifty years. Sloop
A sloop is a sailboat with a single mast typically having only one headsail in front of the mast and one mainsail aft of (behind) the mast. Such an arrangement is called a fore-and-aft rig, and can be rigged as a Bermuda rig with triangular sails fore and aft, or as a gaff-rig with triangular foresail(s) and a gaff rigged mainsail. Sailboats can be classified according to type of rig, and so a sailboat may be a sloop, catboat, cutter, ketch, yawl, or schooner.
