Amund Ringnes Island
Amund Ringnes Island is one of the Sverdrup Islands in the Qikiqtaaluk Region, Nunavut, Canada. It is located in the Arctic Ocean, between 78 and 79 degrees of latitude. It lies east of Ellef Ringnes Island, west of Axel Heiberg Island. Hassel Sound separates Amund Ringnes Island from Ellef Ringnes Island. Hendriksen Strait is to the south, as is Cornwall Island. Norwegian Bay is to the east, as is Haig-Thomas Island. To the north lies Peary Channel. The island has an area of in size, making it the 111th largest island in the world, and Canada's 25th largest island. The island was named by Otto Sverdrup for Oslo brewer Amund Ringnes, one of the sponsors of his expedition. He first sighted it in 1900. The island was claimed by Norway from 1902 until the claim was relinquished in 1930. Amund Dietzel
Amund Dietzel (28 February 1891 – 9 February 1974) was an early American tattoo artist who tattooed tens of thousands of people in Milwaukee between 1913 and 1967. He developed a substantial amount of flash art, influenced many other tattoo artists, and helped to define the American traditional tattoo style. He was known as the "Master of Milwaukee" and "Master in Milwaukee". He learned to tattoo as a young Norwegian sailor, but after a shipwreck in Canada, he decided to immigrate to the United States. He became a traveling performer as a tattooed man, then settled in Milwaukee as a professional tattoo artist. Early life Dietzel was born on 28 February 1891, in Kristiania, Norway. After his father died, Dietzel joined the Norwegian merchant fleet at the age of 14. Scandinavia had a maritime tattooing tradition, and Dietzel soon received his first tattoo. Amund Helland
Amund Helland (11 October 1846 – 15 November 1918) was a Norwegian geologist, politician and non-fiction writer. He is particularly known for his works on glacial erosion and the role of glaciers in the formation of valleys, fjords and lakes. He is also known for starting the series '' Norges Land og Folk'', published in 20 volumes from 1885 to 1921. Personal life Helland was born in Bergen as the son of merchant Hans Helland (1817–1859) and Karen Marie Folkedal. He had six siblings. When his father died in 1859, his mother earned to the family's living by running a pension. He died in Kristiania in 1918. Career Helland was a student from 1864, and graduated as cand.min. in 1868. In his early career he made excursions to Greenland, Iceland and other European countries. Amund Martin Sjøbrend (born 1 December 1952) is a former Speed skating, ice speed skater from Norway. Together with Sten Stensen, Kay Stenshjemmet, and Jan Egil Storholt, Amund Sjøbrend was one of the legendary ''four S-es'' (which sounds like "four aces" in Norwegian (language), Norwegian), four Norwegian top skaters in the 1970s and early 1980s. His first international success came in 1974, when he won silver at the European Allround Championships. Sjøbrend participated at the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck, but had no success there. In 1977, he won bronze at the European Allround Championships. Sjøbrend was more or less in the shadow of the other three of the ''four S-es'' until he had his best year in 1981. That year, he became both European Speed Skating Championships, European Allround Champion and World Allround Speed Skating Championships, World Allround Champion. Amund Rasmussen Skarholt (31 March 1892 – 28 April 1956) was a Norwegian politician for the Norwegian Labour Party. He was born in Orkdal. He was elected to the Norwegian Parliament from Sør-Trøndelag in 1934, and was re-elected on four occasions. During his fifth term, he died. He was then replaced by Jenny Lund.
