Amsterdam Stories USA
Amsterdam Stories USA is a 2012 documentary film and road movie directed by Dutch filmmakers Rob Rombout and Rogier van Eck. It was produced by Hubert Toint and Jean-Jacques Neira of Belgium-based film production company, Saga Film. The premiere was aired in Amsterdam at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam in November 2012 and at Bozar in January 2013. The film traces the history, culture, and lives of 15 small American towns, all named Amsterdam. The places explored are New York City (''New Amsterdam''), Amsterdam New York, Amsterdam Pennsylvania, Amsterdam Ohio, Amsterdam Virginia, Amsterdam Georgia, Amsterdam Mississippi, Amsterdam Texas, Amsterdam Indiana, Amsterdam Wisconsin, Amsterdam Iowa, Amsterdam Missouri, Amsterdam Montana, Amsterdam Idaho, and Amsterdam California. Chiaroscuro
Chiaroscuro ( , ; ), in art, is the use of strong contrasts between light and dark, usually bold contrasts affecting a whole composition. It is also a technical term used by artists and art historians for the use of contrasts of light to achieve a sense of volume in modelling three-dimensional objects and figures. Similar effects in cinema, and black and white and low-key photography, are also called chiaroscuro. Further specialized uses of the term include chiaroscuro woodcut for coloured woodcuts printed with different blocks, each using a different coloured ink; and chiaroscuro drawing for drawings on coloured paper in a dark medium with white highlighting. Myron Mixon (born May 31, 1962) is an American celebrity chef and competitor on the competitive barbecue circuit. He is a five time barbecue World Champion and appeared as a judge on Destination America reality television show ''BBQ Pitmasters''. He also appeared as a judge on the bbq show Smoked as well as the show BBQ Pit Wars. Due to the number of accolades he has achieved during his BBQ career, he has the nickname of "the winningest man in barbecue." Elinor Ruth Tatum is the Publisher and Editor in Chief of the ''New York Amsterdam News'', the oldest and largest black newspaper in the City of New York, and one of the oldest ethnic papers in the country. Background Elinor Tatum was appointed to her position by her father Wilbert Tatum in 1997, and became one of the youngest publishers in the history of the Afro-American press. As editor and publisher Ms. Tatum oversees a staff of 25 full-time employees. Edgar Oliver (born October 31, 1956) is an American stage and film actor, poet, performance artist and playwright. He is considered a "legend" of the downtown New York theater scene and is known for his distinctive accent and diction. Early life Edgar Oliver was born in Savannah, Georgia, the son of Edgar Joseph Oliver Jr. and Mary Louise Gibson. His father died (of a morphine overdose) in Dallas, Texas before he was born. He and his older sister Helen (a painter) were raised by their mother Louise, residing on 36th Street. Louise died when he was 27 years old.
