Amerikavej
Amerikavej ("America Road") is a street in the Vesterbro district of Copenhagen, Denmark. History Copenhagen's gallows were from 1622 to 1792 located approximately where Amerikavej runs today. John Murray Forbes (diplomat)
John Murray Forbes (1771 – June 14, 1831) was an American diplomat. He served as the Chargé d'Affaires to the Republic of Buenos Aires from 1825 to 1831. Early life John Murray Forbes was born in 1771. Career Forbes served as American consul in Copenhagen, Hamburg and Statin from 1801 to 1819. He owned the country house America outside Copenhagen and constructed an American-style windmill known as America Mill at the site in 1814. He served as the Chargé d'Affaires to the Republic of Buenos Aires (later United States Ambassador to Argentina) from 1825 to 1831. Later career In 1825 he was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a member of the American Antiquarian Society. Jacob Marstrand (1848–1935)
Jacob Marstrand (10 August 1848 – 3 June 1935) was a Denmark, Danish master baker and politician. He was a member of the Copenhagen City Council from 1893 and served as Mayor of the Technical Department from 1904 to 1917. His second wife was the children's book writer Margrethe Marstrand. Early life and career Marstrand was born on 10 August 1848 in Copenhagen, the son of toolmaker Theodor Christian Marstrand (1817–1863) and Anna Henriette Mathilde Jansen Tiaden (1822–1900). He graduated from Schnee-kloth's School in 1865. His father had just died and his economic situation therefore forced him to give up his dream of becoming an engineer to become a baker's apprentice instead. The family lived in a house on Amerikavej where the father also had his tool factory. Marstrand was after completing his apprenticeship in 1874 able to take over the old bakery at Købmagergade 19. Vesterbro is one of the 15 administrative, statistical, and city tax districts (''bydele'') comprising the municipality of Copenhagen, Denmark. It covers an area of 3.76 km², and has a population of 51,466 and a population density of 13,688 per km². Frederiksberg Allé Station
Frederiksberg () is a part of the Capital Region of Denmark. It is formally an independent municipality, Frederiksberg Municipality, separate from Copenhagen Municipality, but both are a part of the City of Copenhagen. It occupies an area of less than 9 km2 and had a population of 103,192 in 2015. Frederiksberg is an enclave surrounded by Copenhagen Municipality. Vesterbrogade
Vesterbrogade () is the main shopping street of the Vesterbro district of Copenhagen, Denmark. The 1.5 km long street runs from the City Hall Square in the east to Pile Allé in Frederiksberg in the west where it turns into Roskildevej. On its way, it passes Copenhagen Central Station as well as the small triangular square Vesterbros Torv. It is one of four such ''-bro streets'', the other being Nørrebrogade, Østerbrogade and Amagerbrogade. The road passed Sankt Jørgens Bæk (St. George's Stream) on its way to Valby and often changed course. Ole Johansen Winstrup
Ole Johansen Winstrup (12 August 1782 - 20 December 1867) was a self-taught Danish engineer and inventor. Early life Winstrup was born on 12 August 1782 at Winstrup, Holbæk County, the son of smallholding, smallholder Johan Hansen (c. 1749–1810) and Anna Hansdatter (c. 1754–93). He moved to Copenhagen in 1799 where he trained as a miller and mill builder. In 1804–11, he served as a Royal Life Guard. Career In 181, Winstrup established his own workshop. He acquired the property Mariaslyst at the far end of Vesterbrogade as a new home for his venture which specialized in the manufacture of agricultural machinery. Winstrup created an eight-volume illustrated work on agricultural machines in 1822-26 (published 1824–26). In this connection he went on a study trip to Germany where he met Johann Gottlob Nathusius in Althaldensleben. He bought one of Nathusiuss's factories and operated it from 1824 to 1928.
