Alonso Coello (footballer)
Alonso Coello Camarero (born 12 October 1999) is a Spanish professional footballer who plays for Toronto FC in Major League Soccer. Early life Born in Madrid, Spain, Coello began playing football at age four with Madrid Sur de Vallecas, eventually moving onto the Atlético Madrid youth system, when he was six, where he played for five years. Afterwards, he joined the youth system of Rayo Vallecano, where he played until the age of 18. With the Rayo Vallecano Juvenil, he won the Copa Federación Nacional Juvenil. College career In 2018, Coello moved to the United States to attend Florida Atlantic University, where he played for the men's soccer team, joining through the La Liga ProPlayer initiative, a program that allows players from academy teams in Spain, between the ages 16 and 22, to go to the United States to play college soccer, where they can earn a university degree concurrently. The Leagues Cup is an annual association football competition between clubs from Major League Soccer and Liga MX in North America. It debuted in July 2019 with four teams participating from each league. The first edition was a single-elimination tournament hosted in the United States with a final played in Las Vegas on September 18, 2019. Beginning in 2023, the tournament will be expanded to include all clubs from MLS and Liga MX, and will function as the regional cup for the North American zone within CONCACAF, with the top three teams qualifying for the CONCACAF Champions League. The 2022 Toronto FC II season is the seventh season of play in the club's history. The club moved to MLS Next Pro for the season after previously playing in USL League One. During the regular season, Toronto FC II won the Northeast Division and finished second in the Eastern Conference. In the playoffs, they defeated Philadelphia Union 2 in the Conference Semi-Finals, before being defeated by Columbus Crew 2 in the Conference Finals, after extra time.
