The Almonte Thunder are a Canadian Junior ice hockey team based in Almonte, Ontario. They play in the Eastern Ontario Junior Hockey League. History The Almonte Thunder were granted expansion into the Eastern Ontario Junior Hockey League in 2009. The Thunder filled the void in the league left when the Carleton Place Kings were promoted to the Central Junior Hockey League. Almonte, Ontario
Almonte ( ; ) is a former mill town in Lanark County, in the eastern portion of Ontario, Canada. Formerly a separate municipality, Almonte is a ward of the town of Mississippi Mills, which was created on January 1, 1998, by the merging of Almonte with Ramsay and Pakenham townships. Almonte is south-west of downtown Ottawa. Its population as recorded in the 2016 Canadian Census was 5,039. History European settlement Almonte's first European-bred settler was David Shepherd, who in 1818 was given by the Crown to build and operate a mill. The site became known as Shepherd's Falls. That name was never official, however, and Shepherd sold his patent after his mill burned down. The patent's buyer, Daniel Shipman, rebuilt the mill and the settlement became known as Shipman's Mills by about 1821. Most of Shipman's Mills' early settlers were Scottish and later Irish. Eastern Ontario Junior Hockey League
The Eastern Ontario Junior Hockey League is a Junior ice hockey league operating in Eastern Ontario, Canada. The league is sanctioned by Hockey Eastern Ontario and Hockey Canada and acts as a second tier to the Central Canada Hockey League. The 16 member teams of the league compete for the Barkley Cup. Dating back to the 1960s, the league was known until 2015 as the Eastern Ontario Junior B Hockey League. The League was known from 2015 to 2020 as the Central Canada Hockey League Tier 2. Junior Ice Hockey
Junior hockey is a level of competitive ice hockey generally for players between 16 and 21 years of age. Junior hockey leagues in the United States and Canada are considered amateur (with some exceptions) and operate within regions of each country. Carleton Place Kings
The Carleton Place Canadians are a junior ice hockey team based in Carleton Place, Ontario Canada. The Canadians are members of the Central Canada Hockey League and Canadian Junior Hockey League, and as such are eligible for the Eastern Canadian Fred Page Cup championship and Royal Bank Cup National championship. History The Carleton Place Kings began play in 1969 in the Renfrew-Lanark Junior C Hockey League.
