All Aged Stakes
The All Aged Stakes is an Australian Turf Club Group 1 Thoroughbred Weight for Age horse race, run over a distance of 1,400 metres at Randwick Racecourse, Sydney, Australia in April or May during the ATC Autumn Carnival. Prize money is A$600,000. History The race has a long history and presence in the AJC Autumn Meeting dating back to 1865. The race was open to any aged thoroughbred including 2 year olds. In 1885 the 2-year-old filly Astrœa was victorious. The race attracted champions from every era that included Carbine, Wakeful, triple winner of the race Ajax, Tulloch and Tobin Bronze. In the modern era Rough Habit and Sunline won the race twice. Prizemoney was increased in 2016 from $400,000 to $600,000. Tulloch (horse)
Tulloch (foaled in New Zealand in 1954 and died in 1969) was a champion Australian Thoroughbred racehorse who was one of the greatest Australian stayers. He won at distances from 5 furlongs (1,000 metres) to 2 miles (3,200 m), established Australian records at 10 furlongs (1960 Cox Plate) and 12 furlongs (1957 Caulfield Cup), and took 2 seconds off Phar Lap's 28-year-old record for the AJC Derby. As a three-year-old Tulloch won 14 of his 16 starts before he was struck down by a virus which kept him off the racing scene for almost two years. He returned to racing as an autumn five-year-old and won 15 of his last 24 races. Tulloch was one of the five inaugural horse inductees into the Australian Racing Hall of Fame, alongside Carbine, Phar Lap, Bernborough and Kingston Town. All Too Hard
All Too Hard (foaled 21 September 2009) is a four time Group 1 winning Australian thoroughbred racehorse. He is also a successful breeding stallion having sired numerous stakes winners. Background Bred by Gilgai Farm, All Too Hard is a half brother to undefeated sprinter Black Caviar, with both horses having the same mother in Helsinge. All Too Hard was sold at the 2011 Inglis Easter yearling sale for AU$1,025,000. He was purchased by Wayne and Michael and John Hawkes for Nathan Tinkler's Patinack Farm. Racing career 2011/12: two-year-old season All Too Hard's first race was on the 18 February 2012 at Flemington in the Listed Talindert Stakes. His debut gained much media attention due to his relationship to Black Caviar. Trapeze Artist (horse)
Trapeze Artist (foaled 17 September 2014) is a four-time Group 1 winning Australian bred thoroughbred racehorse. Racing career As a 2 year old Trapeze Artist won two races including the Black Opal Stakes. He also finished 6th in the Golden Slipper. As a 3 year old he won his first Group 1 race the Golden Rose Stakes by a record margin of 4 lengths after being backed in from odds of 90/1 into 40/1. Further Group 1 success was achieved by winning the TJ Smith Stakes in a race record time, bettering the race time of Black Caviar. Three weeks later he won a further Group 1 in the All Aged Stakes, and his last race win came in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes when ridden by Blake Shinn. Pierata (foaled 16 November 2014) is a Group 1 winning Australian thoroughbred racehorse. Background Pierata was sold for A$160,000 at the 2016 Magic Millions yearling sale. Racing career As a 3 year old Pierata won the Vo Rogue Plate at Doomben Racecourse. Two weeks later he won the Magic Millions 3 year old Guineas and in doing so collected the largest prize money in the history of Queensland racing, A$ 1.2 million for first place as well as a $500,000 bonus for previous races won. After 7 unsuccessful performances in Group 1 races, Pierata finally achieved Group 1 success in the 2019 All Aged Stakes at Royal Randwick Racecourse. Tofane (foaled 12 September 2015) is a New Zealand-bred and Australian raced thoroughbred racehorse that has one four Group One races. Background Tofane is by the stallion Ocean Park, the winner of 5 Group One races. She was bred by Gordon Cunningham in New Zealand. Tofane is out of the Australian mare, Baggy Green, who is a granddaughter of champion European mare, User Friendly. Baggy Green is also a half sister to Queensland Oaks winner Youngstar, and a three-quarter sister to Flight Stakes winner Funstar. Tofane is also the half-sister to No Compromise, the winner of the Group 3 N E Manion Cup. Tofane was originally entered for the 2017 New Zealand Bloodstock yearling sale, however Cunningham removed her from the sale and retained ownership. Kolding (foaled 3 November 2015) is a New Zealand bred and Australian trained thoroughbred racehorse that has won three Group I races, as well as the inaugural running of the Golden Eagle in 2020. Background Kolding was purchased for $170,000 at the 2017 New Zealand Premier Yearling Sale. He is a half-brother to Sampson, winner of the Trentham Stakes, Awapuni Gold Cup and New Zealand St. Leger. Racing career Kolding was defeated in his first three races however won at his fourth attempt on the 23 January 2019 at Canterbury when ridden by Hugh Bowman. Cascadian (foaled 26 March 2015) is a British bred and Australian raced Group 1 winning racehorse. Background A homebred for Godolphin, Cascadian is the son of Epsom Derby hero New Approach and is the best of three winners out of the talented Street Cry mare Falls Of Lora, whose four wins included the Group III UAE Oaks and the Listed Coral Distaff at Sandown. Racing career Cascadian began his racing career in France under the guidance of trainer André Fabre. He raced on six occasions for three wins and two seconds, with his best result a second placing when beaten a short neck in the Group 1 Prix Jean Prat at Deauville. Amounis was an Australian Thoroughbred Hall of Fame racehorse. He won 33 races over distances ranging from 6 to 12 furlongs (1,200 to 2,400 metres). Of these wins, 27 were in "Principal Races" (equivalent to today's Group races or "Black Type" races), 16 of these races have since been promoted to Group One (G1) status. Winooka (foaled 1928) was a bay Australian thoroughbred stallion who raced for 5 seasons from a two-year-old to a six-year-old including America recording major wins from 6 furlongs to 1 mile and winning jockeys being Stan Davidson from Newcastle and Sydney Australian Racing Hall of Fame inductees Jim Pike and Edgar Britt. Bernborough
Bernborough (1939–1960) was an outstanding Australian-bred Thoroughbred racehorse who competed from 1941 to 1946. He carried heavy weights in 15 consecutive wins that included the Doomben 10,000 while carrying 10 stone 5 pounds. Bernborough was foaled at Rosalie Plains near the township of Oakey in the Darling Downs in Queensland. The bay colt was by the good sire Emborough (GB) from Bern Maid by Bernard (GB), who was the paternal grandson of Gainsborough, winner of the English Triple Crown in 1918. Racing record Bernborough first raced under the ownership of A.E.Hadwin. A Queensland trainer, J. Roberts, then leased the horse. He came to prominence racing at Toowoomba's Clifford Park when ridden to his first six wins by Les Watterson.
