Alicante CF
Alicante Club de Fútbol was a Spanish football team based in Alicante, in the Valencian Community. Founded in 1918, it played its home matches at ''Estadio Alicante CF'', with a 4,000-seat capacity. History ''Alicante Club de Fútbol'', under their previous name, were formed in 1918. Five years later, in 1923, the club joined the Valencian Football Federation, with Joaquín Tomás Terol being its first official president. The team spent the vast majority of its early existence in the ''Tercera División'', whilst also having very brief spells in the second division (1939–40 – as Alicante Football Club – 1951–52 and 1956–58). For eight years in the 60's, the club acted as the feeder team for neighbours Hércules CF.. In the 2000s, the club firmly established itself as one of the third level's strongest sides. 1939–40 Segunda División
The 1939–40 Segunda División season, the first after a three-year hiatus caused by the Spanish Civil War, saw 40 teams participate in the second flight Spanish league. Murcia was promoted to Primera División. RD Oriamendi, Sestao, Alavés, Erandio, Granollers, Ferroviaria, Imperio de Madrid, Mallorca, Constancia, Elche, Alicante, Burjassot, Imperial de Murcia, Ceuta SC, Onuba and Tánger were relegated to Tercera División due to a Federation decision. 1954–55 Tercera División
The 1954–55 Tercera División season was the 19th since its establishment. Format 164 teams competed in 16 geographic groups. For the first time there were North African and Balearic Islands groups. The 6 group winners were promoted to the Segunda División. The 1948–49 Tercera División was the 13th edition of the Spanish national third tier. Format 14 clubs in 6 geographic groups (84 clubs) participated. One, Maestranza Aérea León withdrew mid-season.
