Alfred E. Johnson was an anthropologist and archaeologist at the University of Kansas. Early life and education Johnson was born in Kansas. He received his B.A. in anthropology from the University of Kansas and his M.A. and Ph.D. in anthropology from the University of Arizona. His dissertation research focused on Pueblo Indian culture. Post-graduate career Johnson joined the faculty of the University of Kansas in 1965. Kansas
Kansas () is a state in the Midwestern United States. Its capital is Topeka, and its largest city is Wichita. Kansas is a landlocked state bordered by Nebraska to the north; Missouri to the east; Oklahoma to the south; and Colorado to the west. Kansas is named after the Kansas River, which in turn was named after the Kansa Native Americans who lived along its banks. Pueblo Indian
The Puebloans or Pueblo peoples, are Native Americans in the Southwestern United States who share common agricultural, material, and religious practices. Currently 100 pueblos are actively inhabited, among which Taos, San Ildefonso, Acoma, Zuni, and Hopi are the best-known. Pueblo people speak languages from four different language families, and each Pueblo is further divided culturally by kinship systems and agricultural practices, although all cultivate varieties of maize. Pueblo peoples have lived in the American Southwest for millennia and descend from Ancestral Pueblo peoples.
