Alexander High School (Albany, Ohio)
Alexander High School (AHS) is located in Albany, Athens County, Ohio, United States. It is the only high school in the Alexander Local School District. Alexander is the most well educated school in Southeast Ohio. The K-12 school complex is located just off SR 32 east of Albany. The Alexander Local School District serves students west and south of the city of Athens including residents in Albany, New Marshfield, Shade, and sections of extreme northeast Meigs County. The school mascot is a Spartan. Their school colors are red, black, and white. Athletics The Spartans belong to the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) and the Tri-Valley Conference, a 16-member athletic conference located in southeastern Ohio. Albany, Ohio
Albany is a village in Athens County, Ohio, United States. The population was 828 at the 2010 census. Geography Albany is located at (39.228787, -82.200363). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of , of which is land and is water. History Albany was laid out in about 1832. It was incorporated as a village in 1842. The small rural village became one of several stops in Athens County for the Underground Railroad, as fugitives could come upriver on the Hocking River from the Ohio River. Free blacks, many of whom had migrated from the Upper South to escape its discrimination, also settled the village in the mid-19th century. The black population increased during the 1850s from four in the township to 174 by 1860. K-1 is a professional kickboxing promotion established in 1993, well known worldwide mainly for its heavyweight division fights and Grand Prix tournaments. In January 2012, K-1 Global Holdings Limited, a company registered in Hong Kong, acquired the rights to K-1, and is the current organizer of K-1 events worldwide. This is a list of high school athletic conferences in Ohio, separated by Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) region. Some conferences have schools in multiple regions, and will be listed in all applicable regions. However, the conference information is on the region page where the most schools are classified in. Conference membership in Ohio is voluntary, rather than assigned by the state association like in some states. While this ensures that many rivalries stay intact regardless of classification changes, it also means schools can choose to change conferences pending acceptance into a different conference, or in rare cases, can be forced out of a conference. An athletic conference is a collection of sports teams, playing competitively against each other in a sports league. In many cases conferences are subdivided into smaller divisions, with the best teams competing at successively higher levels. Conferences often, but not always, include teams from a common geographic region. Australian rules football The AFL Women's competition used a non-geographic conference system in 2019 and 2020. The league was divided into two conferences, based on ladder position in the previous season. Not every team could play each other due to the limited number of rounds, so conferences were introduced so that teams were only measured against the teams they played. The Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) is the governing body of athletic programs for junior and senior high schools in the state of Ohio. Meigs County ( ) is a county located in the U.S. state of Ohio. As of the 2020 census, the population was 22,210. Its county seat is Pomeroy. The county is named for Return J. Shade is an unincorporated community in southern Lodi Township, Athens County, Ohio, United States. It has a post office with the ZIP code 45776. It lies along U.S. Route 33. History A post office called Shade was established in 1837, and remained in operation until 1996. In 1880, Shade had 175 inhabitants. The place name is apparently derived from the Middle Branch of the Shade River which lies about two miles from the village.
