Alexander High School (Albany, Ohio)
Alexander High School (AHS) is located in Albany, Athens County, Ohio, United States. It is the only high school in the Alexander Local School District. Alexander is the most well educated school in Southeast Ohio. The K-12 school complex is located just off SR 32 east of Albany. Alexander Local School District
The Alexander Local School District is a public school district based in Albany, Ohio, United States. The school district includes all of Alexander and Lodi townships, most of Waterloo Township as well as a small portion of west-central Athens Township in Athens County. Columbia Township in northwestern Meigs County and an extremely small portion of far eastern Knox Township in Vinton County also lie within the district. Albany is the only incorporated village that is served by Alexander Local Schools. Notable unincorporated communities in the district include Carbondale, New Marshfield, and Shade. B&O Railroad
The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad was the oldest railroad in the United States and the first steam-operated common carrier. Construction of the line began in 1828, and it operated as B&O from 1830 until 1987, when it was merged into the Chessie System. Its lines are today controlled by CSX Transportation. Founded to serve merchants from Baltimore who wanted to do business with settlers crossing the Appalachian Mountains, the railroad competed with several existing and proposed turnpikes and canals, including the Erie and Chesapeake and Ohio Canal. The railroad began operation in 1830 on a 13-mile line between Baltimore and Elliot's Mill in Maryland. Horse-drawn cars were replaced by steam locomotives the following year.
