Alex Amankwah
Alex Amankwah (born 2 March 1992) is a Ghanaian middle-distance runner specialising in the 800 metres. He attended college and competed in athletics at the University of Alabama, where he set a school record and was a First Team All-American in the indoor 800 metres. He qualified for the 800 metres at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing, China but was unable to compete due to visa issues. He also represented Ghana in the 4 × 400 metres relay at the 2015 African Games. Amankwah represented Ghana in the 800 metres at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Athletics At The 2023 African Games
The 13th African Games is expected to be held in three cities in Ghana in 2024 on dates yet to be confirmed. This will be the second time in history that the games will be decentralized in a process that started in the previous edition held in Morocco. The three cities chosen for these functions are Accra, Kumasi, and Cape Coast. Bids * Accra, Ghana (elected) * Abuja, Nigeria * Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso Ghana won the rights to host the event in October 2018. The men's 800 metres at the 2022 World Athletics Championships was held at the Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, Eugene from 20 to 23 July 2022. Summary After missing the Olympics, defending champion Donavan Brazier was eliminated in the heats. World leader Max Burgin did not start. 2022 World Athletics Championships
The 2022 World Athletics Championships was the eighteenth edition of the World Athletics Championships. It was held at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, United States, from July 15–24, 2022, with the country hosting that competition for the first time. The competition was originally scheduled for August 6–15, 2021, but it was postponed by one year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, World Athletics banned all Russian and Belarusian athletes and officials from participating at the championships. In addition, the stringent vaccination requirements for people entering the United States caused visa delays for participants and officials, with some ultimately being unable to enter the country. Athletics was one of ten core sports that appeared at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast. As a founding sport, athletics has appeared consistently since its introduction at the 1911 Inter-Empire Games; the recognized precursor to the Commonwealth Games.
