Athletics At The 2023 African Games
The 13th African Games is expected to be held in three cities in Ghana in 2024 on dates yet to be confirmed. This will be the second time in history that the games will be decentralized in a process that started in the previous edition held in Morocco. The three cities chosen for these functions are Accra, Kumasi, and Cape Coast. Bids * Accra, Ghana (elected) * Abuja, Nigeria * Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso Ghana won the rights to host the event in October 2018. In November 2021, Ghana signed an agreement with the African Union to host the event. Venues Plans to build a new stadium for the event were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The new Borteyman Sports Complex located in Borteyman, Accra is intended to be used for indoor sports. Branding The mascot, the logo and the website of the event were unveiled in December 2021. Accra Sports Stadium
The Accra Sports Stadium, formerly named the Ohene Djan Stadium, is a multi-use stadium (40,000-capacity, all-seater) located in Accra. Ghana, mostly used for association football matches. It is also used for rugby union. Overview The stadium was inaugurated in 1962 by a football match played between Accra XI and Kumasi XI. Originally known as the Accra Sports Stadium, the stadium was renamed after Ohene Djan, the country's first Director of Sports, in 2004 after renovations. 2023 Africa Cup Of Nations
The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (also referred to as AFCON 2023 or CAN 2023) is scheduled to be the 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, the biennial international men's association football, football championship of Africa organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). The tournament is scheduled to be hosted by Ivory Coast, the second time the country would host the competition. The Confederation of African Football initially changed the dates of the tournament to June and July rather than the usual January, which first came into play in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, 2019 tournament. It would have allowed the tournament to not conflict with other major tournaments, as well as allowing big name players to play for their nations in the tournament without missing games for their European club side. Andrew George William Parsons (born 10 February 1977) is a Brazilian sports administrator and journalist. He is the current president of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC).
