Alevrada
Alevrada ( el, Αλευράδα) is a small village and a community in northern Aetolia-Acarnania, Greece. It belongs to the municipality of Amfilochia. The village has 90 inhabitants (2011 census). Together with the smaller villages Pistiana and Kremasta Sykias, it forms the community Alevrada, population 124 (2011). Geography The village Alevrada is situated 3 km west of the artificial lake Kremasta, at 573 m above sea level. Pistiana is about 1 km to the east, on the road to the Tatarna Bridge. Kremasta Sykias is 6 km to the southeast, near the Kremasta Dam. The nearest larger village is Chalkiopoulo, 11 km to the northwest. Amfilochia is 45 km to the west. History Alevrada appears as a community immediately after the Greek war of independence and the arrival of King Otto. The origin of the name "Alevrada" is unknown. Tatarna Bridge
The Tatarna Bridge ( el, Γέφυρα Τατάρνας) is a bridge over the Kremasta (place which belonged to the municipality of Alevrada Amfilochias) artificial lake (which was created after the building of a huge dam (160 meters high) in the narrowest point of the river Achelous). It was designed by Aristarchos Oikonomou, and built between 1971 and 1973. It is a box girder bridge with three spans; the largest span is 196 m. Inachos ( el, Ίναχος) is a former municipality in Aetolia-Acarnania, West Greece, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Amfilochia, of which it is a municipal unit. It is located in the northernmost part of Aetolia-Acarnania. Its land area is 585.382 km². Its population was 4,760 at the 2011 census. Its municipal seat was the town of Neo Chalkiopoulo (pop. 569). Its largest other villages are Empesos (pop. 444), Amorgianoi (363), Thyamos (386), Perdikaki (356), and Nea Malesiada (308). Western Greece Region ( el, Περιφέρεια Δυτικής Ελλάδας, translit=Periféria Dhitikís Elládhas, ) is one of the thirteen administrative regions of Greece. Aetolia-Acarnania ( el, Αιτωλοακαρνανία, ''Aitoloakarnanía'', ) is one of the regional units of Greece. It is part of the geographic region of Central Greece and the administrative region of West Greece. A combination of the historical regions of Aetolia and Acarnania, it is the country's largest regional unit. Its capital is Missolonghi for historical reasons, with its biggest city and economic centre at Agrinio. The area is now connected with the Peloponnese peninsula via the Rio-Antirio Bridge. Amfilochia
Amfilochia ( el, Αμφιλοχία) is a town and a municipality in the northwestern part of Aetolia-Acarnania in Greece, on the site of ancient Amfilochia. Under the Ottoman Empire, it was known as Karvasaras (Καρβασαράς; from '' caravanserai''). Amfilochia is situated by the Ambracian Gulf and features an amphitheatre. Amfilochia dates back to the ancient times and also features the ancient cities of Amphilochian Argos and Limnaia (or Limnaea). History According to Pausanias, it is named after king Amphilochos, son of Amphiaraus. After the fall of Troy, Amphilochos settled in the area, which consequently was called Amphilochoi until the time of Pausanias. Kremasta (lake)
Lake Kremasta ( el, Λίμνη Κρεμαστών) is the largest artificial lake in Greece. The construction of Kremasta Dam was completed in 1965 concentrating waters from four rivers: Acheloos, Agrafiotis, Tavropos and Trikeriotis. The water that is accumulated in the artificial lake is about . It prevents flooding of the Acheloos, and supplies electricity to the national grid during peaks of demand. The power station at the dam is the biggest hydroelectric plant in Greece (rated power: 437.2 MW). It was constructed in 1966 and is owned by the Public Power Corporation of Greece (DEH A.E.). Kremasta Dam
The Kremasta Dam is an earth-fill embankment dam on the Achelous River in Aetolia-Acarnania, Greece. It is located just downstream of where the Agrafiotis, Tavropos and Trikeriotis rivers meet to form the Achelous. The dam was constructed between 1961 and 1965 and its four 109.3 MW Francis turbine-generators were commissioned between 1966 and 1967. Shortly after the dam's reservoir, Lake Kremasta, was filled a 6.3-Mw earthquake occurred. This has been attributed to reservoir-induced seismicity. Chalkiopoulo ( el, Χαλκιόπουλο) is a Greek village located in the northwest part of Aetolia-Acarnania. It is part of the municipal unit Inachos. History The village existed during the struggle for the independence of Greece (1821-1829) and many of its members participated in this struggle, namely the families: Alexiou (Giannakis, Stavros), Valtinos (Athanasios, Kolios, Georgakis, Georgios, Ioannis, Panos, Dimitrios and Sotiris), Kontogiannis (Mitsos, Vaggelis, Nikolaos, Spyros), Mylonas Zacharis, Nikou Andreas, Sotiris Dimos, Christou Konstantinos, Christou or Seltsikas Spyros and others.
