Aldo Montano (fencer Born 1978)
Aldo Montano (born 18 November 1978) is an Italian fencer and a five-time Olympic medalist. He received a gold medal in sabre individual at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. On 11 October 2011, he won the gold medal at the World Championships in Catania, Italy. He won a silver medal in Men's team sabre at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Biography He is the third generation of his family to win a fencing medal for Italy at the Olympic Games. Aldo initially took up foil, but switched to sabre so he could follow in the footsteps of his grandfather and father. His grandfather, Aldo Montano, won silver medals on the team event in sabre at the 1936 Summer Olympics and the 1948 Summer Olympics. Aldo's father, Mario Aldo Montano, was part of the Italian sabre team that won the gold medal at the 1972 Summer Olympics, and the team silver medals for sabre at the 1976 Summer Olympics, and again at the 1980 Summer Olympics.
