The 2018 World Fencing Championships was held from 19 to 27 July at 2018 in Wuxi, China. Host selection On 23 November 2015, Wuxi beat the Japanese city of Fukuoka with 69 votes to 47. Wuxi
Wuxi (, ) is a city in southern Jiangsu province, eastern China, by car to the northwest of downtown Shanghai, between Changzhou and Suzhou. Miles Chamley-Watson, (born December 3, 1989) is a British-born American right-handed foil fencer, 11-time team Pan American champion, 2019 team world champion, 2013 individual world champion, two-time Olympian, and 2016 team Olympic bronze medalist. Childhood Miles Chamley-Watson was born in London. He is of Jamaican, Irish, British, and Malawian descent. He spent the first eight years of his life as a resident of the UK until he and his family moved to the United States. Upon arriving to the US, Chamley-Watson and his family settled in New York City, where he began fencing one year later, at the Knox School in Saint James, New York. Daniele Garozzo (; born 4 August 1992) is an Italian right-handed foil fencer. Garozzo is a 2022 team European champion, two-time individual European champion, and four-time team world champion. A two-time Olympian, Garozzo is a 2021 individual Olympic silver medalist and 2016 individual Olympic champion. He is the younger brother of Italian épée fencer Enrico Garozzo. Career Garozzo won the 2008 Cadet World Championships at home in Acireale, then took a silver medal in the 2011 and 2012 Junior World Championships. Richard Kruse
Richard Kruse (born 30 July 1983) is a former British right-handed foil fencer and four-time Olympian. In 2015, he was part of the Great Britain team that shocked Olympic champions Italy to win the first European Games gold in team foil, the first British gold medal in a team fencing event at World or European level for fifty years. He retired in 2021. Career Kruse won his first international medal, a silver, at the 2001 European Under 20 Championships and in 2002 won gold in at the same event. Alessio Foconi (born 22 November 1989) is an Italian right-handed foil fencer and 2021 Olympian. Foconi is a 2022 team European champion, 2019 individual European champion, three-time team world champion, and 2018 individual world champion. Career Born in Rome, Foconi took up fencing in Terni, Umbria. He was coached in his formative years by Filippo Romagnoli and Giulio Tomassini. In 2008 he created an upset at the Espinho World Cup after defeating Renal Ganeyev, Ruslan Nasibulin and Choi Byung-chul.
