Albino SyCip
Albino Z. SyCip (last name also spelled as SycipFlavier, Juan M., "Albino Z. Sycip", ''Doctor to the Barrios'', page 6.) (c. 1888May 2, 1978) was a Chinese Filipino financier of Fujianese origin. He was known as the "Dean of Philippine Banking". He earned his law degree from the University of Michigan School of Law in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The son of immigrants from Fujian province, China, SyCip co-founded Chinabank, establishing branches in Xiamen, Amoy and Shanghai, Republic of China, China. He was also one of the original incorporators of the Philippine Rural Reconstruction Movement. Albinism is the congenital absence of melanin in an animal or plant resulting in white hair, feathers, scales and skin and pink or blue eyes. Individuals with the condition are referred to as albino. Varied use and interpretation of the terms mean that written reports of albinistic animals can be difficult to verify. Albinism can reduce the survivability of an animal; for example, it has been suggested that albino alligators have an average survival span of only 24 hours due to the lack of protection from UV radiation and their lack of camouflage to avoid predators. The Philippine Rural Reconstruction Movement, abbreviated as PRRM, is a non-governmental organization and institution formed in 1952 to assist peasants in the Philippines. As a movement, it was initiated by upper and middle class group of individuals based on the experiences gained from the rural reconstruction and development done in China during the beginning of the 1900s. After World War II, among its tasks had been the establishment of cooperatives in rural communities. It was the inspiration for the founding of the Federation of Free Farmers in 1953, as well as the birthing of organizations similar to PRRM in other countries such as Thailand, Colombia, India, and Guatemala. Washington Z. SyCip, PLH BOLk RNO1kl (; 30 June 1921 – 7 October 2017) was a Chinese-Filipino-American accountant. He was the founder of the accounting firm EY SGV & Company and the Asian Institute of Management. Early life and education SyCip was born in Manila on 30 June 1921 to Albino and Helen SyCip. His father, Albino SyCip, co-founded Chinabank in 1920. His name was derived from the fact that his father was in Washington, D.C. at the time of his birth. He spent his early years living in Shanghai before attending Padre Burgos Elementary School and Victorino Mapa High School. He skipped three grade levels in elementary school. SyCip earned a commerce degree at the University of Santo Tomas (UST) with '' summa cum laude'' honors at age 17. He taught in UST while pursuing a master's degree.
