Albatrellaceae
The Albatrellaceae are a family of fungi in the order Russulales. The family contains 9 genera and more than 45 species. Description Most genera in the family produce fruit bodies which have typical mushroom morphology, with caps and stems. Others form false truffles. It also includes a single corticioid genus; ''Byssoporia''. See also * List of Basidiomycota families This is a list of families in the phylum Basidiomycota of kingdom Fungi. Fevansia
''Fevansia'' is a fungal genus in the family Albatrellaceae. A monotypic genus, it contains the single rare truffle-like species ''Fevansia aurantiaca'', found in old-growth forests of Oregon. The name ''Fevansia'' honors Frank Evans of the North American Truffling Society, who collected the holotype specimen. ' is Latin for "pale orange", referring to the color of the peridium. Description Truffles are fungi that have evolved to be hypogeous, or below the ground, and thus they have reduced morphological features. Some of the features commonly analyzed on truffles are the peridium, or the outside, the gleba, which is the inner tissue which contains the spores, and the spores themselves. The peridium of ''Fevansia'' is 100–200 µm thick. The gleba is firm and moist and the color is pale orange with either a pink or an orange tint. The spores are 10–13 by 3.5–5 µm, spindle-shaped, and smooth and appear in large groups to be gray-yellow and appear pale yellow wh ...

Byssoporia
''Byssoporia'' is a fungal genus in the family Albatrellaceae. The genus is monotypic, containing the single widespread corticioid species ''Byssoporia terrestris''. There are several varieties: ''sartoryi'', ''lilacinorosea'', ''aurantiaca'', ''sublutea'', and ''parksii''. These differ in bruising reaction, presence of clamp connections in the hyphae, or hyphal morphology. Jahnoporus
''Jahnoporus'' is a genus of fungi in the family Albatrellaceae. There are two species in the genus, which have a widespread distribution in northern temperate regions. The type species, '' J. hirtus'', was transferred to this genus in 1980; it was formerly known as ''Piptoporus hirtus''. The genus name of ''Jahnoporus'' is in honour of Hermann Jahn (1911 - 1987) German teacher, Ornithologist and Botanist (Mycology). Polyporoletus
''Polyporoletus'' is a genus of fungi in the family Albatrellaceae. The genus was first described by mycologist Walter H. Snell in 1936 to accommodate an unusual terrestrial polypore with a stipe that had been found in the ground in pine-oak woods in Fentress County, Tennessee Tennessee ( , ), officially the State of Tennessee, is a landlocked state in the Southeastern region of the United States. Tennessee is the 36th-largest by area and the 15th-most populous of the 50 states. It is bordered by Kentucky to th .... He named this specimen ''Polyporoletus sublividus''; the generic name refers to the possible relationship to both the boletes and the polypores. Although this species would be later transferred to the genus ''Scutiger'', it is now considered to be ''Polyporoletus''. Currently there is only one other species in the genus, ''P. neotropicus'' Mata & Ryvarden (2007). References External links Russulales Russulales genera {{Russulales-stub ...

Scutiger (Albatrellaceae)
''Scutiger'' is a genus of fungi in the family Albatrellaceae, which includes '' S. oregonensis'', the fungus tuber. General characteristics Species in ''Scutiger'' are terrestrial, annual, and usually have simple, bright-colored, mesoporous hymenophores. The surface anoderm is variously decorated; the context is usually white, but rarely colored, and is fleshy to tough—rigid and fragile when dry. The Hymenium is porous, can be white or colored, and has thin-walled tubes; The spores are smooth, or rarely echinulate and hyaline. The surface of the pileus can be uneven, squamous, or rugose as in ''S. oregonensis'' or ''S. decurrens''; or smooth and hispid-tomentose, as in ''S. hispidellus'' (synonymous with ''Jahnoporus hirtus'', which was named for this quality. Albatrellus
''Albatrellus'' is a genus of 19 species of mushroom-producing fungi in the family Albatrellaceae. Species are common in northern temperate forests, producing medium to large fleshy fruit bodies of various colors. Taxonomy British botanist Samuel Frederick Gray first described the genus in his 1821 work "A Natural Arrangement of British Plants". Parsimony analysis of internal transcribed spacer sequences of various ''Albatrellus'' species show that the genus is not monophyletic, and that the species may be divided into two clades. This corroborates prior phylogenetic analysis that suggested that ''Albatrellus'' consists of two separate groups with affinity to the Russuloid and Polyporoid clades. Description Species of ''Albatrellus'' are terrestrial, with fleshy fruit bodies that differentiate into caps and stipes; the stipe is either central or eccentric to lateral. Fruit bodies are solitary or in clusters with stem bases or cap margins fused. Context mostly tough-fleshy, w ...

Russulales
The Russulales are an order of the Agaricomycetes, (which include the agaric genera ''Russula'' and '' Lactarius'' and their polyporoid and corticioid relatives). According to the ''Dictionary of the Fungi'' (10th edition, 2008), the order consists of 12 families, 80 genera, and 1767 species. According to ''Species Fungorum'' (January 2016), the order contains 13 families, 117 genera (16 not assigned to a family), and 3,060 species. Russuloid agarics represent an independent evolutionary line of agarics, not directly related to the Agaricales. This group also includes a number of russuloid hypogeous fungi, polypores such as ''Bondarzewia'', some tooth fungi (e.g. '' Auriscalpium vulgare''), and club fungi e.g. '' Artomyces''. Basidiospores in this group are typically ornamented with amyloid warts or reticulation but a few exceptions are known, e.g. '' Heterobasidion annosum''. The genus ''Clavicorona'' was often treated in the Russulales, but its type species, '' C. taxop ...

Albatrellus Ovinus
''Albatrellus ovinus'' (commonly known as Sheep Polypore) is a terrestrial polypore fungus found in western North America, and Northern Europe. It is very closely related to the rarer '' A. subrubescens'', from which it may be distinguished microscopically by the amyloid spore wall. It is edible and sold commercially in Finland. Description The cap is 4–20 cm wide, convex then flat or depressed, and white then tan or pinkish. The surface is dry and smooth but cracks with age. The whitish stalk is 3–10 cm tall and 1–4 cm wide, perhaps branching, with an equal or larger base. The species may be edible if cooked, but is not recommended by some guides. Similar species A fuller discussion of the small color differences from the inedible ''Albatrellus subrubescens'' can be found at that extensive article.
