Alaminos, Pangasinan
Alaminos, officially known as the City of Alaminos ( pag, Siyudad na Alaminos; ilo, Siudad ti Alaminos; tl, Lungsod ng Alaminos), is a 4th class component city in the province of Pangasinan, Philippines, and is known for being the home of the Hundred Islands National Park, which is composed of 124 islands and is located off the coast of Barangay Lucap. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 99,397 people. The city was named after Juan Alaminos y de Vivar, former Governor-General of the Philippines. In 2009, it was announced that the Alaminos Airport would be built near the city as a commercial airport for Pangasinan province. However, the timeline for construction of the airport has repeatedly slipped; as of 2015, the project is in limbo. Alaminos Airport
Alaminos Airport, also known as Hundred Islands International Airport, in the Philippines got its approval in 2007, but its location was not decided upon until 2009 within the area of Alaminos, Pangasinan. Construction began in March 2010 and it was expected to open for domestic flights by 2012-13, but then set for 2016-17 and for international flights by 2022, encompassing an area of 158.5 ha within the barangays of Sabangan, Pandan, and Telbang. Juan Alaminos Y De Vivar
Juan Alaminos y de Vivar (1813–1899) was a Spanish general who served as the 96th Governor-General of the Philippines. Biography There is not much known about the early career of Alaminos other than that he was from Cuéllar, and that he was born on 27 October 1813. His military career began with his participation in the First Carlist War (1833–1839). He then served under General Juan Prim, 1st Marquis of los Castillejos during the Hispano-Moroccan War (1859–60). In 1871, he was elected as Senator of Burgos, and the following year (1872) as Senator of Córdoba. Before the abdication of King Amadeo I of Spain, Alaminos was sent to assume the position of Governor-General of the Philippines on 24 January 1873. Hundred Islands National Park
The Hundred Islands National Park is the first national park and a protected area located in Alaminos, Pangasinan in the northern Philippines. The islands, totaling 124 at low tide and 123 at high tide, are scattered in Lingayen Gulf covering an area of . Only four of them have been developed for tourism: Marcos Island, Governor Island, Quezon Island, and Children's Island. Geology The islands are believed to be about two million years old. There are actually ancient corals that extend well inland, in an area previously comprising the seabed of an ancient sea. The lowering of the sea level have exposed them to the surface.
