Alabama State Route 56
State Route 56 (SR 56) is a state highway completely within Washington County in the southwestern part of the U.S. state of Alabama. The western terminus of the highway is at the Mississippi state line at an intersection with U.S. Route 45 (US 45) and Mississippi Highway 42 (MS 42). The eastern terminus of the highway is at Wagarville, where it intersects US 43. SR 56 was part of US 84 until 1958, when the Coffeeville Bridge opened over the Tombigbee River. Route description SR 56 enters Alabama at the Mississippi state line where Mississippi Highway 42 intersects US 45. The highway heads eastward as it approached Chatom, the county seat of Washington County. East of Chatom, the highway travels through rural areas until it reaches its eastern terminus at US 43 in Wagarville. The highway is aligned along a two-lane road for its entirety. Washington County is a county located in the southwestern part of the U.S. state of Alabama. As of the 2020 census, the population was 15,388. The county seat is Chatom. Mississippi Highway 42 (MS 42) is a state highway in southern Mississippi. MS 42 runs in an east/west direction for , serving seven Mississippi counties: Wayne, Greene, Perry, Forrest, Lamar, Jefferson Davis, and Lawrence. Portions of this highway run parallel to the Longleaf Trace. The length of highway between Interstate 59 and U.S. Highway 11 in Forrest County, just outside Petal is known as the Evelyn Gandy Parkway. Tombigbee River
The Tombigbee River is a tributary of the Mobile River, approximately 200 mi (325 km) long, in the U.S. states of Mississippi and Alabama. State Route 13 (SR 13) is a state highway in the western part of the U.S. state of Alabama. Except for a portion roughly between Berry and Russellville, SR 13 is the unsigned designation for U.S. Route 43 (US 43).
