Al-Hadi Izz Ad-din
Al-Hadi Izz ad-Din (1441 - April 18, 1495) was an imam of the Zaidi state in Yemen, who held the imamate in 1474–1495 in rivalry with other claimants. Izz ad-Din bin al-Hasan bin Ali was a grandson of the counter-imam al-Hadi Ali (d. 1432) and a seventh-generation descendant of imam al-Hadi Yahya (d. 1239). He proclaimed his da'wa (call for the imamate) in 1474, after the death of the former imam al-Mutawakkil al-Mutahhar. He was considered a forceful leader who revived some of the power of the Zaydiyyah imamate. He was also a man of learning. Among his works were a text about how to prepare for afterlife, and a treatise on manumission of slaves as compensation for received injuries. Nevertheless, he had to contend with a number of other rivals for the title: an-Nasir Muhammad (d. 1488), al-Mansur Muhammad (d. 1505) and al-Mu’ayyad Muhammad (d. 1503). Imam
Imam (; ar, إمام '; plural: ') is an Islamic leadership position. For Sunni Muslims, Imam is most commonly used as the title of a worship leader of a mosque. In this context, imams may lead Islamic worship services, lead prayers, serve as community leaders, and provide religious guidance. Thus for Sunnis, anyone can study the basic Islamic sciences and become an Imam. For most Shia Muslims, the Imams are absolute infallible leaders of the Islamic community after the Prophet. An-Nasir Muhammad Bin Yusuf
An-Nasir Muhammad bin Yusuf (died August 8, 1488) was a contender for the Zaidi state in Yemen, whose term as imam is counted from 1474 to 1488. Muhammad bin Yusuf was a descendant of the imam al-Mahdi Ali (d. 1372) in the fifth generation. When the old imam al-Mutawakkil al-Mutahhar died in Dhamar in 1474, three claimants appeared on the scene. These included Muhammad bin Yusuf, who went from San'a to the mountainous stronghold Thula. From there he made his da'wa (call for the imamate), spreading the message to San'a, Falala and other Zaidi areas. He took the honorific name an-Nasir Muhammad. Zaydi Imams Of Yemen
Zaydism (''h'') is a unique branch of Shia Islam that emerged in the eighth century following Zayd ibn Ali‘s unsuccessful rebellion against the Umayyad Caliphate. In contrast to other Shia Muslims of Twelver Shi'ism and Isma'ilism, Zaydis, also called Fivers, consider Zayd to be the fifth imam and successor to Ali ibn Husayn Zayn al-Abidin, instead of his half-brother Muhammad al-Baqir. Rassids
The Imams of Yemen and later also the Kings of Yemen were religiously consecrated leaders belonging to the Zaidiyyah branch of Shia Islam. They established a blend of religious and political rule in parts of Yemen from 897. Their imamate endured under varying circumstances until the republican revolution in 1962, then the formal abolition of the monarchy in 1970. Zaidiyyah theology differed from Ismailis or Twelver Shi'ites by stressing the presence of an active and visible imam as leader. The imam was expected to be knowledgeable in religious sciences, and to prove himself a worthy headman of the community, even in battle if this was necessary. An-Nasir Al-Hasan
An-Nasir al-Hasan (1457 - June 24, 1523) was an imam of the Zaidi state in Yemen, who exerted a limited authority in the northern Yemeni highland in 1495–1523. Al-Hasan bin Izz al-Din was the son of the forceful imam al-Hadi Izz al-Din. After the death of the latter in 1495, al-Hasan proclaimed his call for the imamate under the name an-Nasir al-Hasan. He inherited his father's love for learning, but hardly his political skills. Zaidi tradition depicts him positively as a shelter for widows and orphans, and a haven for the weak. Al-Mu’ayyad Muhammad
Al-Mu'ayyad Muhammad (died February 25, 1503) was an imam of the Zaidi state in Yemen who ruled in parts of the Yemeni highland including San'a in 1462–1503. Repulsing the Tahirides He was a son of the former imam al-Mansur an-Nasir who died while imprisoned in Kawkaban in 1462. Al-Mansur Muhammad (1441 – March 4, 1505) was an imam of the Zaidi state in Yemen who ruled in 1475–1504, in rivalry with other claimants for the imamate. Zaidi disunity Muhammad bin Ali as-Siraji al-Washali was one of the three Sayyids who claimed the Yemeni imamate after the death of al-Mutawakkil al-Mutahhar in Dhamar in 1474.
