Agathe Alexandrine Gavaudan, called Mme Raimbaux or Raimbaux-Gavaudan, (1801 – 19 April 1877) was a French operatic contralto. Life Born in Paris, Gavaudan is the daughter of Jean-Baptiste-Sauveur Gavaudan and Alexandrine Marie Agathe Gavaudan-Ducamel. In 1820, she married Antoine François Victor Raimbaux (†1843) and they had two children. She was a student of Manuel García. She was first appreciated in the salons and in the concerts with, among others, Maria Malibran. A contralto () is a type of classical female singing voice whose vocal range is the lowest female voice type. Arthur Pougin
Arthur Pougin ( 6 August 1834 – 8 August 1921) was a French musical and dramatic critic and writer. He was born at Châteauroux ( Indre) and studied music at the Conservatoire de Paris under Alard (violin) and Reber (harmony). In 1855 he became conductor at the Théâtre Beaumarchais, and afterward leader at Musard's concerts, subconductor at the Folies-Nouvelles, and from 1860 to 1863 he was first violin at the Opéra-Comique. He was in turn '' feuilletoniste'' to ''Le Soir'', ''La Tribune'', '' L'Événement'' and '' Le Journal Officiel'', besides being a frequent contributor to all the important French musical periodicals. A benefit performance is a type of live entertainment which is undertaken for a cause. In its original usage, benefit performances were opportunities for an actor to supplement his/her income. In its modern usage, benefit performances are given to raise money for or awareness of a humanitarian cause, or for the immediate benefit of an audience. Jean-Baptiste-Sauveur Gavaudan
Jean-Baptiste-Sauveur Gavaudan (8 August 1772 – 10 May 1840) was French opera singer who sang leading tenor roles, primarily with the Opéra Comique in Paris. He was particularly known for his skill as an actor and was sometimes referred to as "the Talma of the Opéra Comique". He also served as the director of the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels for the 1817–1818 season. Born in Salon-de-Provence, he made his stage debut in 1791 at the Théâtre Montansier. Gavaudan was married to the soprano Alexandrine Marie Agathe Gavaudan-Ducamel from 1798 until his death in Paris at the age of 67. François-Joseph Fétis (; 25 March 1784 – 26 March 1871) was a Belgian musicologist, composer, teacher, and one of the most influential music critics of the 19th century. His enormous compilation of biographical data in the ''Biographie universelle des musiciens'' remains an important source of information today.
