Agartala Book Fair (Bengali language: আগরতলা বইমেলা) is an annual book fair usually held in February or March in Agartala, Tripura, India. History It was started on 30 March 1981.Smaranika 37th Agartala Baimela 2019, Published by Information & Cultural Affairs Department, Government of Tripura, Agartala, 2019, Page - 148. (in Bengali) It ran for 10 days.Agartala 40th Book Fair, 22 March 2022, 4th page, Dainik Sambad. In 2017, Tripura Publishers' Guild Secretary Raghunath Sarkar says, "After New Delhi and Kolkata book fairs, Agartala book fair is the most popular book fair in India." Silver jubilee (25-year mark) of it was celebrated in 2007 as it was not held in 1990 and 1993. Until 2020 it was usually held at Umakanta Academy or Agartala Children's Park, after which the fair was moved to the Hapania International Fair Ground. Agartala () is the capital city of the Indian state of Tripura, and is one of the largest cities in northeast India. The city is governed by the Agartala Municipal Corporation. The city is the seat of the Government of Tripura. ''Dainik Sambad'' ( bn, দৈনিক সংবাদ) is a Bengali daily newspaper published from Agartala, the capital of the Indian state of Tripura. It is one of the largest circulated dailies in the state. It is considered among the better Bengali language news papers of the North East. The International Kolkata Book Fair (formerly Calcutta Book Fair) is a winter fair in Kolkata. It is a unique book fair in the sense of not being a trade fair—the book fair is primarily for the general public rather than whole-sale distributors. It is the world's largest non-trade book fair, Asia's largest book fair and the most attended book fair.
