Adamasta Channel
The Adamasta Channel is a narrow passage between the Chi Ma Wan Peninsula of Lantau Island and Cheung Chau island in Hong Kong. It is one of the few passages in Hong Kong waters with a significant hazard, the Adamasta Rock, in the middle; however, the rock is well marked with a fixed light, and port- and starboard-hand buoys on either side. The channel experiences heavy traffic at all hours, being the principal route for the frequent fast ferry services between Hong Kong and Kowloon, and Macau, and also several outlying island ferry services. In physical geography, a channel is a type of landform consisting of the outline of a path of relatively shallow and narrow body of water or of other fluids (e.g., lava), most commonly the confine of a river, river delta or strait. Chi Ma Wan
Chi Ma Wan () is a bay on southeastern Lantau Island, New Territories, Hong Kong. Chi Ma Wan Peninsula () is where Chi Ma Wan, as well as Cheung Sha Wan, Tai Long Wan, Yi Long Wan and Mong Tung Wan are located. The Peninsula is located within the boundaries of Lantau South Country Park. Correctional institutions The Chi Ma Wan Correctional Institution is near Cheung Sha Wan on the peninsula. It was originally picked out by the Hong Kong Colonial Government as a site to house Russian refugees but in the end they decided not to build it and focussed on a prison instead. Established in 1956, it was the first open prison in Hong Kong. It is not currently in use. The Christian Zheng Sheng College, a school providing correctional services for students, is also located on the peninsula. Lantau Island
Lantau Island (also Lantao Island, Lan Tao) is the largest island in Hong Kong, located West of Hong Kong Island and the Kowloon Peninsula, and is part of the New Territories. Administratively, most of Lantau Island is part of the Islands District of Hong Kong. A small northeastern portion of the island is located in the Tsuen Wan District. Cheung Chau
Cheung Chau (lit. "Long Island") is an island southwest of Hong Kong Island. It is nicknamed the 'dumbbell island (啞鈴島)' due to its shape. It has been inhabited for longer than most other places in Hong Kong, and had a population of 22,740 . Administratively, it is part of the Islands District. Geography Geographically the island is formed from two mostly granite masses joined by a tombolo. With an area of , the island is therefore "long", hence the name as translated from Cantonese is "Long Island". Thus, it is redundant to say "Cheung Chau Island". The island is dumbbell-shaped, with hills at the northern and southern ends and the settlements concentrated in between. Adamasta Rock
Adamasta Rock () is an uninhabited undersea rock in Hong Kong, in the centre of the busy Adamasta Channel between the Chi Ma Wan Peninsula of Lantau Island and Cheung Chau island, in Hong Kong. It falls within the Islands District. The rock is submerged at high water and presents a significant shipping hazard due to its location in the middle of the Adamasta shipping channel. Kowloon () is an urban area in Hong Kong comprising the Kowloon Peninsula and New Kowloon.
