Adam Batirov
Adam Alavdinovich Batirov (russian: Адам Алавдинович Бати́ров; born 13 January 1985 in Dagestan) is a Russian and Bahraini freestyle wrestler of Avar heritage. He is a World Cadet Championships runner-up and Cadet European Champion (2002). He thrice won the Ivan Yarygin tournament and is National Russian Freestyle wrestling Champion (2007). In 2009, he won his first European Championships. At the 2016 Asian Wrestling Championships he won gold, beating Kumar Vinod of India in the final match. He is a 2018 World Championships runner-up. Adam is the younger brother of two-time Olympic Champion Mavlet Batirov. After winning 2016 World Wrestling Olympic Qualification Tournament 1, he competed for Bahrain which led to its qualification for the 2016 Summer Olympics. Avar People (Caucasus)
The Avars, also known as ''Maharuls'' ( Avar: , , "mountaineers") are a Northeast Caucasian ethnic group. The Avars are the largest of several ethnic groups living in the Russian republic of Dagestan. The Avars reside in the North Caucasus between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea. Alongside other ethnic groups in the North Caucasus region, the Avars live in ancient villages located approximately 2,000 m above sea level. The Avar language spoken by the Caucasian Avars belongs to the family of Northeast Caucasian languages. Sunni Islam has been the prevailing religion of the Avars since the 13th century. FILA Wrestling European Championships
The European Wrestling Championships is the second oldest international wrestling competition of the modern world and the main wrestling championships in Europe. It predates World Wrestling Championships and other regional wrestling championships and is second only to the wrestling events at the Olympics. From its inception in 1898 till 1927 only Greco-Roman wrestling was contested. Since 1929 separate freestyle wrestling events were held as well. Since 1970 the two Olympic wrestling styles were contested together during the same unified events. Since 1973 Sambo wrestling was included into the championships programme along with GR and freestyle wrestling (subsequently discontinued and from 1983 contested separately). Mavlet Batirov
Mavlet Alavdinovich Batirov (russian: Мавлет Алавдинович Батиров, born December 12, 1983) is a Russian freestyle wrestler, world and 2-time Olympic champion, who competed in the men's freestyle 55 kg category at the 2004 Summer Olympics and won the gold medal. In April 2006, in Moscow, he became the 60 kg European champion. In September 2007 in Baku, he won the World Championship at 60 kg. In August 2008, in Beijing, Batirov won his second Olympic gold medal competing at the 60 kg weightclass. Freestyle wrestling is a style of wrestling originated from Great Britain and the United States. Along with Greco-Roman, it is one of the two styles of wrestling contested in the Olympic Games. American high school and men's college wrestling is conducted under different rules and is termed scholastic and collegiate wrestling. American collegiate women's wrestling is conducted under freestyle rules. Freestyle wrestling, like collegiate wrestling, has its greatest origins in catch-as-catch-can wrestling. In both styles the ultimate goal is to throw and pin the opponent to the mat, which results in an immediate win. Ivan Sergeyevich Yarygin ( rus, Иван Сергеевич Ярыгин, p=ɪˈvan sʲɪrˈɡʲe(j)ɪvʲɪtɕ jɪˈrɨɡʲɪn; 7 November 1948 – 11 October 1997) was a Soviet and Russian heavyweight freestyle wrestler.
