Abou Gakou
Aboubakar Pedro Gakou (born 27 May 1997) is an Angolan basketball player who plays for Petro de Luanda and the Angola national team. Standing at , he plays as power forward. Gakou started his career with Petro in 2015 and has won four national championships with the team since, while being a two-time MVP winner as well. Professional career Gakou started playing basketball only at age 17. A year later, in 2015, he was a prospect on the roster of Petro de Luanda. He won his first Angolan championship in 2019. Gakou was named the league's Most Valuable Player of the 2020–21 season after winning his second championship with the team. He was forced to miss the 2021 BAL season after he tested positive for COVID-19, making it impossible for him to join the bubble. In the 2021–22 season, Gakou helped Petro win the national treble. 2021 BAL Season
The 2021 BAL season, also known as BAL Season 1, was the inaugural season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). Established as a joint effort between the National Basketball Association (NBA) and FIBA, the BAL is the highest tier continental league of Africa, replacing the FIBA Africa Basketball League. 2023 BAL Season
The 2023 BAL season, also known as BAL Season 3, is the third season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). The season began on 11 March 2023 and will end on 27 May 2023, with the playoffs and finals being played in the BK Arena in Kigali, which hosts the finals for a third season in a row. The regular season is played in Dakar, Senegal (Sahara Conference) and Cairo, Egypt (Nile Conference) for a second year in a row. The qualification games for the season, the Road to BAL, began on 11 October 2022. The winners of the 2023 BAL season will automatically qualify for the 2023 FIBA Intercontinental Cup Singapore. 2021–22 Angolan Basketball League
The 2021–22 Angolan Basketball League, for sponsorship reasons the 2021–22 Unitel Basket, is the 44th season of the Angolan Basketball League, the highest premier basketball league in Angola. The season consisted of 13 teams and began on 22 December 2021 and ended on 10 May 2022. Petro de Luanda won its 15th national title while also winning the Angolan Cup and Supercup this season. In all league games, Petro was unbeaten and had a 31–0 record including the playoffs. FIBA AfroBasket 2021 was the 30th edition of the FIBA AfroBasket, a men's basketball continental championship of Africa. The tournament was hosted by Rwanda for the first time. It was originally scheduled to take place between 17 and 29 August 2021, but it was moved back a week due to the COVID-19 pandemic, to 24 August to 5 September 2021. The tournament featured 16 teams, with South Sudan debuting at the AfroBasket stage.
