Abhinandan Varthaman
Abhinandan Varthaman Vir Chakra, VrC (born 21 June 1983) is an Indian Air Force fighter pilot who, during the 2019 India–Pakistan standoff, was involved in entering Pakistani airspace and his MIG 21 was shot down by Pakistani Pakistan Air Force, PAF F 16, F-16 on 27 February 2019, after India carried out 2019 Balakot airstrike, airstrikes in Balakot, Pakistan the previous day. His plane was shot down inside Pakistan and he was held captive there for 60 hours and was treated as a guest in Pakistan after an aerial dogfight. . He liked the hospitalilty of Pakistan and quoted "The tea is Fantastic" given by the Pakistan's Air force. He was awarded with Vir Chakra by the Indian government. Pakistan released videos and images showing Varthaman being rescued from a violent mob of villagers by its soldiers, receiving first aid, and being questioned while blindfolded. The National Defence Academy (NDA) is the joint defence service training institute of the Indian Armed Forces, where cadets of the three services i.e. the Indian Army, the Indian Navy and the Indian Air Force train together before they go on to respective service academy for further pre-commission training. The NDA is located in Khadakwasla, Pune, Maharashtra. It is the first tri-service academy in the world. The alumni of NDA include 3 Param Vir Chakra recipients and 12 Ashoka Chakra recipients. Thirupanamoor
Thirupanamoor and Karanthai are twin villages about 19 km from Kanchipuram. They host historically important Jain temples containing historical inscriptions. There is a population of local Jains in these and nearby villages. Thirupanamoor village has a Jain temple dedicated to Lord Pushpadanta that houses a rare gilded plaster image of him, with hundreds of brass images and a library.
