Aberdeen Central (Scottish Gaelic, Gaelic: ''Obar Dheathain Meadhain'') is a burgh constituency of the Scottish Parliament (Scottish Parliament Building, Holyrood) covering part of the Aberdeen City council area. It elects one Member of the Scottish Parliament, Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) by the first past the post method of election. It is one of the ten constituencies in the North East Scotland (Scottish Parliament electoral region), North East Scotland Scottish Parliament constituencies and regions, electoral region, which elects seven additional member system (Scottish Parliament), additional members, in addition to ten constituency MSPs, to produce a form of proportional representation for the region as a whole. Scottish Parliament Constituencies And Regions
The Scottish Parliament ( Holyrood), created by the Scotland Act 1998, has used a system of constituencies and electoral regions since the first general election in 1999. The parliament has 73 constituencies, each electing one Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) by the plurality (first-past-the-post) system of voting, and eight additional member regions, each electing seven additional MSPs. Each region is a group of constituencies, and the D'Hondt method of allocating additional member seats from party lists is used to produce a form of proportional representation for each region. Aberdeenshire
Aberdeenshire (; ) is one of the 32 Subdivisions of Scotland#council areas of Scotland, council areas of Scotland. It takes its name from the Shires of Scotland, historic county of Aberdeenshire (historic), Aberdeenshire, which had substantially different boundaries. The Aberdeenshire Council area includes all of the areas of the historic counties of Aberdeenshire and Kincardineshire except the area making up Aberdeen City Council area, as well as part of Banffshire. The historic county boundaries are still officially used for a few purposes, namely land registration and Lieutenancy areas of Scotland, lieutenancy. Aberdeenshire Council is headquartered at Woodhill House in Aberdeen, making it the only Scottish council whose headquarters are located outside its jurisdiction.
