Abelardo Rodríguez Urdaneta
Abelardo Rodríguez Urdaneta (June 24, 1870 – January 11, 1933) was a Dominican sculptor, photographer, painter and educator. A prolific artist, he was one of the first successful multidisciplinary artists of the modern art era in the Dominican Republic and is considered to be one of the forerunners of Dominican sculpture, photography, and painting. His creative work consists of a large number of portraits, busts, statues, monuments and pictorial paintings in which he collected important moments in the country’s history that reflected the lives of social leaders, merchants, and families of the time. In 1908, Urdaneta opened an academy of drawing, painting, and sculpture that trained many prominent artists, including Celeste Woss y Gil, Delia Weber, Genoveva Báez, Aida Ibarra and Fernando 'Tuto' Báez. Leopoldo Navarro (painter)
Leopoldo Navarro (1862 – July 12, 1908) was a Dominican Republic painter, educator, mathematician, and sculptor born in Santo Domingo in 1862. An impressionistic romantic, he is considered one of the forerunners of national Dominican plastic arts, as well as a notable educator. He died on July 12, 1908, in Santo Domingo, at the age of 46. In the Museum Bellapart, a collection of Navarro's watercolors are displayed. An important street in Santo Domingo is also named after him. Biography Navarro was born in 1862 in Santo Domingo. Julio Arturo Grullón Julia (February 8, 1869 – July 14, 1942) was a Dominican painter, ophthalmologist, and educator. The Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD) () is a public university system in Dominican Republic, with its flagship campus in Ciudad Universitaria (lit.
