Abdul Latif Hakimi
Mullah Abdul Latif Hakimi, ( ; also known as Latif Hakimi or Hakim Latifi) was a media spokesman for the Taliban between January 2004 until his capture in October 2005 by Pakistani officials. Life Hakimi first claimed a suicide bombing on 28 January 2004, that killed a British soldier in Kabul, Afghanistan. In June 2005, he confirmed that a helicopter had been shot down by insurgent fire during Operation Red Wings, killing all 16 U.S. Naval special operators aboard, representing the largest loss of life in the Invasion for the Coalition forces at that time. On 4 October 2005, Pakistani officials arrested Hakimi in Balochistan, Pakistan. After Hakimi's capture, Yousef Ahmadi represented the Taliban, along with Muhammad Hanif. Hakimi was released on 18 March 2007 along with four other Taliban prisoners in exchange for the release of kidnapped Italian reporter Daniele Mastrogiacomo. Mullah
Mullah (; ) is an honorific title for Shia and Sunni Muslim clergy or a Muslim mosque leader. The term is also sometimes used for a person who has higher education in Islamic theology and sharia law. The title has also been used in some Mizrahi and Sephardic Jewish communities to refer to the community's leadership, especially religious leadership. Operation Red Wings (often incorrectly referred to as ''Operation Redwing'' or ''Operation Red Wing''), informally referred to as the Battle of Abbas Ghar, was a joint military operation conducted by the United States in the Pech District of Kunar Province, Afghanistan. Daniele Mastrogiacomo (born 30 September 1954) is an Italian-Swiss journalist and a war correspondent for ''la Repubblica'' newspaper. An expert in foreign politics, he began working for ''la Repubblica'' in 1980 and has been a special international reporter since 1992. Mastrogiacomo reported on events such as police operation Mani Pulite, the Marta Russo murder and the Priebke affair. Muhammad Hanif ( ps, محمد حنيف) (d. November 2008) was a media spokesman for the Taliban from October 2005 until his capture by Afghanistan's National Directorate of Security (NDS) on January 17, 2007. Hanif and Yousef Ahmadi were appointed in October 2005 after the previous spokesman, Latifullah Hakimi, was captured. His main tool of communication to news organizations was e-mail. Shortly after the death of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, Hanif reached the press by means of a satellite telephone, and read a statement about the "martyr" which he claimed was written by Mullah Omar. On the day of his 2007 capture, Afghan intelligence officials released a recording of part of Hanif's interrogation.
