Aarne Ermus
Aarne Ermus (born on 14 April 1966) is an Estonian military officer. Biography Early life and service in the Soviet Army Aarne Ermus was born on 14 April 1966 in Abja-Paluoja. He graduated Karksi-Nuia Middle School in 1984 and continued his studies in Omsk at the Higher Command Military School. After graduating from the Omsk Military School, Aarne Ermus was first the commander of a motorized rifle group of the Soviet Army in the Far East. Estonian Defence Force In connection with the independence of Estonia, Ermus joined the EDF. From 1992 to 1996, he was associated with the Kuperjanov Infantry Battalion. He has been Chief of Staff of the General Staff of the Estonian Defence Forces, also as the Operative Commander of the Estonian Defence Forces. Abja-Paluoja
Abja-Paluoja is a town in Mulgi Parish, Viljandi County, in southern Estonia. Before 2017, it was the administrative centre of Abja Parish. Abja-Paluoja was first mentioned in 1505. Abja-Paluoja gained town rights in 1993 and became a sovereign municipality but in 1998 it was merged into surrounding rural municipality Abja Parish. Since 1940, the Abja Gymnasium has offered secondary education. The kindergarten in Abja-Paluoja was founded in 1912. Kuperjanov Infantry Battalion
The Kuperjanov Infantry Battalion ( et, Kuperjanovi jalaväepataljon) is a battalion of the Estonian Land Forces. It is a part of the 2nd Infantry Brigade. Battalion headquarters is at Taara Army Base, Võru. History Estonian War of Independence Julius Kuperjanov was a school teacher who was commissioned into the Imperial Russian Army during World War I and served as a commander of partisan and reconnaissance units. In 1918, he joined the Estonian Army at the beginning of the Estonian War of Independence. On 23 December 1918, Kuperjanov received permission from Colonel Ernst Limberg, commander of the 2nd Division, to form a special purpose partisan unit. Kuperjanov's unit initially consisted of 37 volunteers and was based at Puurmani manor. New volunteers continued to arrive and the unit soon grew to 600 troops, becoming Tartumaa Partisan Battalion.
