AB Bostaden
AB Bostaden is a municipally owned public housing company in Umeå Municipality. AB Bostaden is a subsidiary to Umeå kommunföretag AB, which in turn is owned by the Umeå Municipality. The company has a market share of about 45% of the housing rental market in Umeå and owns and manages about 15,000 apartments. History Many of the apartments owned by AB Bostaden were built between 1965 and 1975 as part of the Million Programme. In 2010, they estimated that about 4,000 of their older apartments was in need of renovation. In 2009, AB Bostaden spent about 125 million Swedish krona, SEK on maintenance. Million Programme
The Million Programme ( sv, Miljonprogrammet) was an ambitious public housing program implemented in Sweden between 1965 and 1974 by the governing Swedish Social Democratic Party to ensure the availability of affordable, high quality housing to all Swedish citizens. The program sought to construct one million new housing dwellings over a ten-year period, which it accomplished. As part of its intention to modernize Swedish housing, it also demolished many older buildings that national and local governments considered obsolescent, unhealthy or derelict. At the time, the intention to build one million new homes in a nation with a population of eight million made the Million Programme the most ambitious building programme in the world. ''Västerbottens-Kuriren'' (also known as VK) is a Swedish newspaper founded in 1900. It is published in Umeå, Västerbotten, Sweden. The newspaper covers regional news from the region Västerbotten (with the exception of the municipalities Mala, Norsjö and Skellefteå), with a special interest in the home town Umeå, in combination with national news and international news.
