The A5147 is a road in northern England that runs from Maghull in Merseyside to Scarisbrick in Lancashire. Route Merseyside It begins off the A59 road in Maghull, where it is called Liverpool Road North. After leaving the town, it crosses over the Leeds and Liverpool Canal in Lydiate. It passes the Scotch Piper Inn before entering Lancashire at Downholland Cross. Scarisbrick () is a village and civil parish in West Lancashire, England. The A570, the main road between Ormskirk and Southport, runs through Scarisbrick, and much of the village lies along it. As a result, it does not have a traditional village centre, though the junction with the A5147 is close to the geographic centre. Toponymy Scarisbrick literally means "Skar's slope" and comes from the Old Norse ''Skar'' (a personal name) + ''-es'' ( possessive) + ''brekka'' ("slope"). It is thought that the personal name is Danish, though the second element suggests Norwegian settlement. The "slope" may refer to a slight incline between two streams near the site of Scarisbrick Hall. Downholland is a civil parish in Lancashire, England, on the West Lancashire Coastal Plain. The population at the 2011 census was 913. Maghull
Maghull ( ) is a town and civil parish in Sefton, Merseyside (historically a part of Lancashire). The town is north of Liverpool and west of Kirkby. The area also contains Ashworth Hospital. Maghull had a population of 20,444 at the 2011 Census. Housing in the town is almost entirely a 20th-century settlement of semi-detached and detached housing although remains of the original town do exist. The town has had an elected council since the Local Government Act 1894 when the government set up a network of local governance across England. Following the Local Government Act 1974, the council changed its name from a parish to a town council. Scotch Piper Inn
The Scotch Piper Inn in Lydiate, North West, England is the oldest pub in the historic county of Lancashire. The building dates from 1320 and is a Grade II* listed building. It is located on the A5147, from Liverpool and from Southport in the ceremonial county of Merseyside. It stands close to the site of Lydiate Hall and next to the remains of St Catherine's Chapel. History The fabric of the building is thought to date from 1320, but most of the current building is probably from the 16th century. It was originally known as "The Royal Oak". According to local legends it was renamed "the Scotch Piper" in honour of an injured Scottish piper connected with the Jacobite Rebellion in the 18th century, who visited the inn. The A59 is a major road in England which is around long and runs from Wallasey, Merseyside to York, North Yorkshire. The alignment formed part of the Trunk Roads Act 1936, being then designated as the A59. It is a key route connecting Merseyside at the M53 motorway to Yorkshire, passing through three counties and connecting to various major motorways. The road is a combination of historical routes combined with contemporary roads and a mixture of dual and single carriageway.
