Llanelli
Llanelli ("St Elli's Parish"; ) is a market town and the largest community in Carmarthenshire and the preserved county of Dyfed, Wales. It is located on the Loughor estuary north-west of Swansea and south-east of the county town, Carmarthen. The town had a population of 25,168 in 2011, estimated in 2019 at 26,225. The local authority was Llanelli Borough Council when the county of Dyfed existed, but it has been under Carmarthenshire County Council since 1996. Name Spelling The anglicised spelling “Llanelly” was used until 1966, when it was changed to Llanelli after a local public campaign. Ffairfach is a village south of the market town of Llandeilo in the eastern part of Carmarthenshire, Wales. It is located close to the confluence of the Afon Cennen and the River Towy. Population is 516 according to 2017 census. Etymology The Welsh name for the village is ''Ffair-fach'' signifying 'little fair'. In the early 17th century it was recorded as ''Ffair fach yn Llandilo''. The 'large fair' took place in neighbouring Llandeilo. It was reportedly formerly known as Abercennen. History In the early 19th century Ffairfach was a fair sized village of about three dozen houses. It had a corn mill and a village inn, The Torbay Inn, which doubled as a blacksmiths. The Tabernacle chapel was built in 1818, with a burial ground. Two fairs were held each year, one on 5 May and a cattle fair on 22 November. The Union Poor House was built about 1839. Llandeilo () is a town and community in Carmarthenshire, Wales, situated at the crossing of the River Towy by the A483 on a 19th-century stone bridge. Its population was 1,795 at the 2011 Census. It is adjacent to the westernmost point of the Brecon Beacons National Park. The town is served by Llandeilo railway station on the Heart of Wales Line. Panteg ( cy, Pant-teg) is a large village and community in the county borough of Torfaen, Wales. It is adjacent to Griffithstown, between the towns of Cwmbran and Pontypool. Llannon is a small village, community and electoral ward in the county of Carmarthenshire, Wales. It is located on the A476 road south east of the county town, Carmarthen, between Tumble and Swiss Valley. The community of Llannon, contains Llannon village, Tumble and Cross Hands. The community is bordered by the communities of: Gorslas; Llandybie; Llanedi; Llangennech; Llanelli Rural; and Pontyberem, all being in Carmarthenshire. The community had a population of 5,270 as of the 2011 census. History and amenities Llannon has deep historical links with the Rebecca Riots and there is rumoured to be a secret passage under the main road running through the village. Cross Hands
Cross Hands is a town in Carmarthenshire, Wales, approximately from Carmarthen. Cross Hands Public Hall is one of only three of its kind in Wales. The Public Hall was erected in 1920 and designed by an unknown Italian designer in the classic Art Deco Style. Fully restored, the Public Hall has a fully functioning stage and cinema screen and is protected as a Grade 2 listed building. The continuous built up area which includes the villages of Cross Hands, Gorslas, Cefneithin and Pen-y-groes had a population of 5,717 in 2011. Cross hands is a growing residential and employment area and includes the established Cross Hands Food Park to the south west of the A48.
