9Gem (Australian TV Channel)
9Gem is an Australian free-to-air digital television multichannel, launched by the Nine Network in September 2010. The channel provides general entertainment and movie programming, from which the original name "GEM" is derived. History Nine Network CEO David Gyngell stated "GEM is part of Nine's strategy to create a cluster of complementary channels to cover all key audiences." The channel is aimed at everyone, including lifestyle programs and movies, with additional programming drawn from a combination of new shows and other shows previously aired on its sister channels Nine and GO!. The launch of GEM followed the success of GO!. 1080i (also known as Full HD or BT.709) is a combination of frame resolution and scan type. 1080i is used in high-definition television (HDTV) and high-definition video. The number "1080" refers to the number of horizontal lines on the screen. The "i" is an abbreviation for "interlaced"; this indicates that only the even lines, then the odd lines of each frame (each image called a video field) are drawn alternately, so that only half the number of actual image frames are used to produce video. A related display resolution is 1080p, which also has 1080 lines of resolution; the "p" refers to progressive scan, which indicates that the lines of resolution for each frame are "drawn" on the screen in sequence. SES/RTS
SES/RTS, part of the WIN Television network, are Australian television stations licensed to, and serving the rural south-east portion of South Australia, including Mount Gambier, the Limestone Coast and the Riverland. The network began as two separate stations, SES-8 and RTS-5A. History It was originally two individual stations serving different regions. SES-8 commenced transmissions on 25 March 1966 serving Mount Gambier and south-east South Australia. RTS-5A began on 26 November 1976 serving Loxton, Renmark and the Riverland. In the 1990s, RTS was bought by SES, but it continued to produce a local news bulletin, and identified on-air as 5A. 2019 Ashes Series
The 2019 Ashes series (officially the Specsavers Ashes Series for sponsorship reasons) was a series of Test cricket matches played between England and Australia for The Ashes in August and September 2019. The venues were Edgbaston, Lord's, Headingley, Old Trafford and The Oval. Australia were the defending holders of the Ashes going into the series, having won in 2017–18. DVB-T, short for Digital Video Broadcasting – Terrestrial, is the DVB European-based consortium standard for the broadcast transmission of digital terrestrial television that was first published in 1997 and first broadcast in Singapore in February, 1998. David Gyngell
David Liam Barr Gyngell (born 1966), an Australian businessman, was the former Chief Executive Officer of Nine Entertainment Co. which owns a string of businesses including the Nine Network and Nine Radio. Gyngell was the CEO of the Nine Network before resigning in May 2005. After a period of declining ratings compared to Channel Seven, he returned to the job in September 2007, succeeding Eddie McGuire. In November 2013, he was appointed as the CEO of Nine Entertainment Co. He resigned as CEO in 2015, and was replaced by Hugh Marks. In most telecommunications organizations, a virtual channel is a method of remapping the ''program number'' as used in H.222 Program Association Tables and Program Mapping Tables to a channel number that can be entered via digits on a receiver's remote control. Often, "virtual channels" are implemented in digital television, helping users to find a desired channel easily, or easing the transition from analogue to digital broadcasting in general. The practice of assigning virtual channels is most common in those parts of the world where TV stations were colloquially named after the RF channel they were transmitting on ("Channel 6 Springfield"), as it was common in North America during the analogue TV era. 9Rush is an Australian free-to-air digital television multichannel, launched by the Nine Network on 5 April 2020. The channel is a joint venture with Warner Bros. Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific Pte. Ltd (which also supplies its programming) and is broadcast on Channel 96 across Nine's metropolitan markets. The target audience are males between the ages of 25 to 54. In March 2022, Discovery, Inc. launched the similarly-named Rush channel in New Zealand, which shares some programming and common ownership with 9Rush. 9Life is an Australian free-to-air digital television multichannel owned by Nine Entertainment. The channel airs mostly foreign lifestyle and reality programs, with the channel having a licensing agreement with Discovery Inc. (previously Scripps Networks Interactive) for the distribution of many formats.
