91st Street Station (IRT Broadway–Seventh Avenue Line)
The 91st Street station was a local station on the IRT Broadway–Seventh Avenue Line of the New York City Subway. It was located at 91st Street and Broadway on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. The 91st Street station was constructed for the Interborough Rapid Transit Company (IRT) as part of the city's first subway line, which was approved in 1900. Construction of the line segment that includes the 91st Street station began on August 22 of the same year. The station opened on October 27, 1904, as one of the original 28 stations of the New York City Subway. The station was closed on February 2, 1959, as a result of a platform lengthening project at the two adjacent stations, 86th Street and 96th Street. The 91st Street station contains two abandoned side platforms and four tracks. The station was built with tile and mosaic decorations. Many of these decorations have been covered with graffiti. 91st Street is a proposed station along the Northern Branch Corridor Project extension of Hudson-Bergen Light Rail in the Babbitt Section of North Bergen, New Jersey. The station site is located along the Northern Branch (CSX) south of the Edgewater Branch (NYSW) at the city line with Fairview west of U.S. Route 1/9 (Tonnelle Avenue). It is designed to have two side platforms and small parking area for 32 vehicles. Erie Railroad's Northern Branch and the New York, Susquehanna, and Western (NYSW) maintained a minor station at Babitt nearby 83rd Street in North Bergen. South Chicago (91st Street) was a commuter rail station on the Metra Electric District's South Chicago branch at East 91st Street and South Baltimore Avenue in Chicago's South Chicago neighborhood. The station provided service to the South Chicago, South Deering, Hegewisch Hegewisch (pronounced "heg-wish" by the locals) is one of the 77 community areas of Chicago, Illinois, located on the city's far south side. It is bordered by the neighborhoods of Riverdale and South Deering to the west, the East Side to the ..., and East Side neighborhoods. In Metra's zone-based fare system, 91st Street was in zone B.
