89th Sustainment Brigade
The 89th Sustainment Brigade is a subordinate command of 451st Expeditionary Sustainment Command and one of only eight of its kind in the United States Army Reserve. The unit is the latest addition in the Army Transformation process for the 451st but will manage a peacetime downtrace that has command and control of approximately 1,700 Army Reservists located throughout the Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska areas, and its Soldiers support diverse missions that are logistical in nature. Its mission is to plan, coordinate, synchronize, monitor, and control Logistics Operations within an assigned area of responsibility. The brigade also coordinates host nation support and contracting, as well as providing support to joint, interagency, and multinational forces as directed. Sustainment Brigade
As part of the early 21st century transformation of the United States Army from a division-based structure to a brigade-based army; the division support commands, corps support groups, and area support groups were inactivated and transformed to sustainment brigades (previously called sustainment units of action (SUS or SUA). Mission The sustainment brigade is designed to provide mission command for combat support and combat service support units. It can be adjusted in size to support anywhere from one to ten brigade combat teams (BCTs). 451st Expeditionary Sustainment Command
The 451st Expeditionary Sustainment Command (ESC) is a subordinate command of 79th Sustainment Support Command. History The Army Reserve officially placed the 451st ESC in a two-year "carrier status" to allow the Army Reserve the necessary time to recruit soldiers, equip the unit and begin training to meet its activation date. Located in Wichita, Kansas the 451st ESC activated on 16 September 2011, becoming the newest ESC in the Army Reserve. In October 2012, the 451st took command and control of multiple Army Reserve units throughout the Midwest. The unit deployed to the CENTCOM area of responsibility in support of contingency operations in 2016. The 89th Infantry Division, originally known as the "89th Division," was an infantry formation of the United States Army that was active during World War I, World War II, and the Cold War. History World War I The 89th Division was officially activated in August 1917, four months after the American entry into World War I, at Camp Funston, Fort Riley, Kansas, under the command of Major General Leonard Wood, formerly the Chief of Staff of the United States Army. Camp Funston
Camp Funston is a U.S. Army training camp located on Fort Riley, southwest of Manhattan, Kansas. The camp was named for Brigadier General Frederick Funston (1865–1917). It is one of sixteen such camps established at the outbreak of World War I.
