Arthur Longmore
Air Chief Marshal Sir Arthur Murray Longmore, (8 October 1885 – 10 December 1970) was an early naval aviator, before reaching high rank in the Royal Air Force. He was Commander-in-Chief of the RAF's Middle East Command from 1940 to 1941. Early life Born in Manly, New South Wales, the son of Charles Croker Longmore and Janet Murray, he was educated at Benges School, Hertford, and Foster's Academy, Stubbington, before entering Dartmouth Naval College. He was commissioned into the Royal Navy in 1904. Having developed an interest in flying, he volunteered for pilot training when the Navy accepted an offer of training facilities by the Royal Aero Club, and was one of the four officers to be selected. He obtained flying certificate No.72 in April 1911 at an RAeC meeting that also awarded licences to the pioneer naval aviators C. R. Samson and Wilfred Parke. Roy Longmore
Roy Longmore (29 April 1894 – 21 June 2001) was an Australian soldier and centenarian, who after Alec Campbell, was noted as the second last living Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) veteran who saw service in World War I. After training in Egypt, was sent to the Battle of Gallipoli where he was a sapper with the 2nd Division, burrowing underneath the Turkish positions and laying mines. After evacuation from Turkey, he fought at Pozières, Armentières, and Villers-Bretonneux. He was wounded three times in France and was momentarily given up for dead when he was shot as the Armistice approached in November 1918. He later recalled, :"We were patrolling in a gully when suddenly half a dozen Germans appeared over a hill armed with machine guns and opened fire. Jerry riddled me, knocking me flat on my back, and the last I heard was 'Longy's had it, they got him.'" Michael Longmore
Michael Colin Longmore (born 19 September 1979) is an English former cricketer. Longmore was a right-handed batsman. He was born in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire. Longmore made his debut for Staffordshire in the 1999 Minor Counties Championship against Cambridgeshire. Longmore played Minor counties cricket for Staffordshire from 1999 to 2005, which included 17 Minor Counties Championship matches and a single MCCA Knockout Trophy match. In 2001, he made his List A debut against Hertfordshire in the first round of the Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy. His second appearance came against Northumberland in the second round of the same competition, with both rounds being played in 2001. He played a further List A match against Warwickshire in the third round of the same competition which was played in 2002. Andrew Longmore (journalist)
Andrew Nigel Murray Longmore (24 September 1953 – 11 April 2019) was an English first-class cricketer and sports journalist. Longmore was born at Woolwich in September 1953. He was educated at Twyford School, before going up to Worcester College, Oxford. While studying at Oxford, he made two appearances in first-class cricket for Oxford University against Derbyshire in 1973 and Worcestershire in 1975. Playing as a wicket-keeper in the Oxford side, he scored 28 runs with a high score of 15. After graduating from Oxford, Longmore became a sports journalist, with his first role being at ''The Cricketer'' in the early 1980s. He was chief sportswriter for the ''Independent on Sunday'', before becoming a senior sportswriter at ''The Sunday Times'' in 2003, from which he retired in 2018. He won the Sports Journalists' Association Olympic/Paralympic Reporter category in 2000 for his coverage of the Summer Olympics, while in 2003 he won Feature Writer of the Year. 77P/Longmore
77P/Longmore is a periodic comet in the Solar System, with a period of 6.8 years. It was discovered by Andrew Jonathan Longmore on a photographic plate taken on 10 June 1975 at the 1.22m Schmidt telescope at Siding Spring Observatory, New South Wales, Australia. Its brightness was estimated at an apparent magnitude of 17. After further observations Brian G. Marsden was able to calculate the perihelion date at 4 November 1975 and the orbital period as 6.98 years. The next perihelion date was computed to be 21 October 1981. T. Seki of Geisei, Japan relocated the comet on 2 January 1981 with a brightness of magnitude 18. It has since been observed in 1988, 1995, 2002 and 2009. On 17 October 1963 the comet had passed from Jupiter. During the 2023 perihelion passage the comet brightened to about apparent magnitude 14–15. Saphire Longmore-Dropinski (born 1976) is a Jamaican politician and beauty pageant titleholder. She is member of the Jamaica Labour Party who currently serves as a Government Senator in the Upper House of Parliament of Jamaica. She also works as a psychiatrist and model.
