Saphire Longmore
Saphire Longmore-Dropinski (born 1976) is a Jamaican politician and beauty pageant titleholder. She is member of the Jamaica Labour Party who currently serves as a Government Senator in the Upper House of Parliament of Jamaica. She also works as a psychiatrist and model. She represented her country at Miss Universe 2000 pageant in Cyprus, after winning the Miss Jamaica Universe . Education Dr. Longmore attended Glenmuir High School where she was Deputy Head girl, and holds a doctorate degree in Psychiatry from the University Of The West Indies, Mona. Personal life In 2008, she married European Union diplomat Alex Dropinski. Jamaica Labour Party
The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) is one of the two major political parties in Jamaica, the other being the People's National Party (PNP). While its name might suggest that it is a social democratic party (as is the case for "Labour" parties in several other Commonwealth realms such as Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom), the JLP is actually a conservative party. It is the current governing party, having won 49 of the 63 parliamentary seats in the lower house of parliament (House of Representatives) in the 2020 general elections. The JLP uses a bell, the victory sign, and the colour green as electoral symbols. The JLP is a member of the Caribbean Democrat Union. Miss Jamaica Universe
Miss Universe Jamaica (formerly Miss Jamaica Universe) is a beauty pageant that selects the contestant to represent Jamaica at the Miss Universe beauty pageant. History Although Jamaica started competing at the Miss Universe Pageant in 1961, the Miss Universe Jamaica pageant officially started in 1982 and was organised by Ed Wallace to select the official representative. This was won by Nancy Martin who was slated to compete at the Miss Universe pageant, but was unable to do so. The contest was again held from 1986 to 1988, and in 1989 Pulse was asked to host the Jamaica preliminary to Miss Universe. They went on to post an outstanding record, producing 4 top 10 finalists (Sandra Foster, Kimberley Mais, Nicole Haughton and Christine Straw) at the international Pageant.
