Kings County, Prince Edward Island
Kings County (2021 population 18,327) is located in eastern Prince Edward Island, Canada. It is the province's smallest, most rural and least-populated county. Kings County is also least dependent upon the agriculture industry compared with the other two counties, while being more heavily dependent on the fishery and forest industry. Comparatively large parts of the county are still forested and it hosts the province's largest sawmill. The only heavy industry, aside from forestry and industrial farming, is a small shipyard, although secondary manufacturing has been established in recent years. The county was named by Capt. Samuel Holland in 1765 for King George III (1738–1820). As such, Kings County's shire town is Georgetown. The largest community within the town of Three Rivers. John Alexander Mathieson
John Alexander Mathieson (May 19, 1863 – January 7, 1947) was a Prince Edward Island politician and jurist, the 12th premier. Mathieson was born in Harrington and was a graduate of Prince of Wales College. He was a schoolmaster and lawyer before entering politics with his election to the province's legislature as a Conservative in 1900. He represented the district of 4th Kings in his first term in the legislature, then shifted to 5th Kings in 1904. Mathieson sat on the opposition benches becoming Leader of the Opposition and of the Conservative Party in 1903. In December 1911, the Liberal government resigned when Premier H. James Palmer was defeated in a by-election which also caused the governing Liberals to lose their majority in the legislature. Albert Perkins Prowse (December 24, 1858 – June 20, 1925) was a merchant and political figure in Prince Edward Island, Canada. He represented 4th Kings in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island from 1899 to 1900, from 1904 to 1919 and from 1923 to 1925 as a Conservative member. He served as Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island from 1918 to 1919. He was born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, the son of Samuel Prowse and Eliza Willis. Prowse was educated at the Wesleyan Academy and then entered his father's business. His brother William joined the business some time later. Prowse exported dried fish, canned lobsters and farm produce. In 1881, he married Williamina A. Kirkland. Murdoch MacKinnon (March 15, 1865 – October 12, 1944) was a Canadian politician and served as the 11th Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island. George Beairsto. Aitken (20 May 1836 – 18 February 1909) was a merchant and political figure in Prince Edward Island. He represented 4th Kings in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island from 1893 to 1897 as a Liberal councillor. He was born in Lower Montague and was of Scottish descent. In 1868, Aitken married Jane Shaw. He was a justice of the peace. In the 1897 election, Murdock MacKinnon and George Aitken polled an equal number of votes for the council seat in 4th Kings. Donald Alexander MacKinnon (22 February 1863 – 20 April 1928) was a Canadian teacher, lawyer, politician, author, and the eighth Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island from 1904 to 1910. Born in Uigg, Prince Edward Island, the son of William and Catherine Nicholson Mackinnon, MacKinnon attended Uigg grammar school and started teaching when he was 14. He later received a first-class teaching licence from the Prince of Wales College in Charlottetown. In 1882, he started articling with the Charlottetown barrister Malcolm McLeod. From 1885 to 1887, he attended Dalhousie Law School where he received a Bachelor of Laws degree. He was called to the Bar an attorney in 1887 and a barrister in 1888.
