Substituted tryptamines, or serotonin analogues, are organic compounds which may be thought of as being derived from tryptamine itself. The molecular structures of all tryptamines contain an indole ring, joined to an amino group, amino (NH2) group via an ethyl (−CH2–CH2−) side chain, sidechain. In substituted tryptamines, the indole ring, sidechain, and/or amino group are modified by substituting another group for one of the hydrogen (H) atoms. Well-known tryptamines include serotonin, an important neurotransmitter, and melatonin, a hormone involved in regulating the sleep-wake cycle. 4-HO-DPT (4-hydroxy-''N'',''N''-dipropyltryptamine, Deprocin) is a substituted tryptamine with psychedelic effects. It is the 4-hydroxyl analog of dipropyltryptamine (DPT). In 2019, Chadeayne et al. solved the crystal structure of the fumarate salt of 4-HO-DPT. The authors describe the structure as follows: "The asymmetric unit contains one 4-HO-DPT cation, protonated at the dipropylamine N atom. 4-HO-DsBT (4-hydroxy-''N,N''-di-''sec''-butyltryptamine) is a tryptamine derivative which acts as a serotonin receptor agonist. It was first made by Alexander Shulgin and is mentioned in his book TiHKAL, but was never tested by him. However it has subsequently been tested ''in vitro'' and unlike the ''n''-butyl and isobutyl isomers which are much weaker, the ''s''-butyl derivative retains reasonable potency, with a similar 5-HT2A receptor affinity to MiPT but better selectivity over the 5-HT1A and 5-HT2B subtypes. 4-Hydroxy-N,N-diisopropyltryptamine (4-HO-DiPT or Iprocin) is a synthetic psychedelic drug. It is a higher homologue of psilocin, 4-HO-DET, and is a positional isomer of 4-HO-DPT and has a tryptamine molecular sub-structure. Dosage 4-HO-DiPT is orally active at around 3 mg and above, and its effects last for 2–3 hours. Higher doses such as those above 30 mgs can increase the duration of the effects significantly. Effects The effects of 4-HO-DiPT are broadly comparable to those of other serotonergic psychedelics such as LSD and psilocybin, but they are distinguished by their relative brevity.
