3rd Maldives Film Awards ceremony, presented by the Maldives Film Association, honored the best Maldivian films released in 2012 and 2013. Nominations for the major categories were announced on 28 April 2014. The ceremony was held on the same day of nomination announcement. Maldives Film Awards
The Maldives Film Awards are presented by Maldives Film Association to honour both artistic and technical excellence of professionals in the Maldivian film industry. The ceremony had been sponsored by various private organizations in the past including Enchanteur and Ilsha. A live ceremony was broadcast to television audiences. History The Maldives Film Awards were first introduced in 2011. In the first awards function, held on 2 July 2011, awards were given to films released in 2008 and 2009; picked from 5th Gaumee Film Awards held in 2007. The association attempted to host the fourth edition of the award in 2016, but it was cancelled following several delays. Later in 2020, the association announced the fourth ceremony of the award which got delayed further due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Awards Awards are given in the following categories. Mohamed Manik
Mohamed Manik (15 October 1969) is a Maldivian film actor and director. Career 2002–10: Critical acclaim and breakthrough Manik rose to widespread prominence in the television industry and was applauded for his performance in a dual role, Ahmed Ayaz and Mohamed Adheel, in the Abdul Faththaah-directed critically acclaimed television series, '' Thiyey Mihithuge Vindhakee'' (2003) which was considered as one of the best series production in television industry. Fattah's horror film '' Eynaa'' was released in 2004, which appears Sheela Najeeb, Manik, Ahmed Shah, Khadheeja Ibrahim Didi, Ibrahim Jihad and Nashidha Mohamed as six colleagues who go on a picnic to a haunted uninhabited island and their battle for survival. Ahmed Sinan
Ahmed Sinan (born 19 March 1990) is a Maldivian director, graphic designer, cinematographer and editor. Career Ahmed Sinan made his career debut with Dark Rain Entertainment's production, '' Happy Birthday'' (2009) by working as the title animator and creating visual effects. He was then offered to make title animations and visual effects for films produced under several studios. Sinan's most recognized work came in 2013, Ali Shifau-directed horror film ''Fathis Handhuvaruge Feshun 3D'' which serves as a prequel to ''Fathis Handhuvaru'' (1997) starring Reeko Moosa Manik and Niuma Mohamed in lead roles. The film was marketed as being the first 3D release for a Maldivian film and the first release derived from spin-off. Using a single laptop and working on a daily basis all by himself, the project took him two months to be completed. Ali Shifau
Ali Shifau (born 19 May 1977) is a Maldivian film director, cinematographer and editor. One of the most successful filmmakers in Maldivian Cinema, Shifau is the recipient of a number of awards, including seven Gaumee Film Awards, and four Maldives Film Awards. In 2018, the Government of Maldives honoured him with the National Award of Recognition. Career Ali Shifau collaborated with Moomin Fuad to direct the critically appreciated crime film '' Heylaa'' (2006) featuring a cast of Ismail Rasheed, Ahmed Mauroof, Zeenath Abbas, Lufshan Shakeeb and Abdulla Muaz. The film narrates the story of a fourteen year old ambitious boy who finds himself unknowingly being involved in the smuggling of a revolver. Apart from directing the film, Shifau worked as the editor and cinematographer, marking it as the first Maldivian film to be shot in high-definition digital video. Abdul Faththaah
Abdul Faththaah Abdul Gayyoom (born 6 December 1971), commonly known as Abdul Faththaah is a Maldivian film director, producer, editor, screenwriter and choreographer. One of the most successful filmmakers in Maldivian Cinema, Faththaah is the recipient of a number of awards, including four Gaumee Film Awards, and two Maldives Film Awards. Fathimath Nahula (born 22 June 1973) is a Maldivian film director, film producer and screenwriter. Early life In 1991, Nahula joined Jamaluddin school and worked as a teacher for four years. During the time, she spends most of her time in writing and developing stories. She then penned dialogues and stories for several films and television dramas produced by Television Maldives while publishing handful of them on different platforms including newspapers and magazines. Aiming to deliver the real emotions she write on the paper, Nahula decided to pursue a career in film direction. Mahdi Ahmed
Mahdi Ahmed (born 17 October 1971) is a Maldivian screenwriter, producer and film director. He made his career debut with critically acclaimed film '' Amaanaaiy'' (1998), which fetched him several awards including a Gaumee Film Award for Best Director and Best Screenplay. From 1999 to 2002, he mainly worked as a director and screen writer in the Inter Office Teledrama Competition, which resulted him receiving six awards for the five films submitted. Afterwards, he was mainly recognized for his collaboration with Abdul Faththaah for the romantic disaster film, '' Hureemey Inthizaarugaa'' (2005) and fifty episodes' television series ''Hinithun Velaashey Kalaa'' (2006). Rafiyath Rameeza
Rafiyath Rameeza (23 March 1976) is a Maldivian singer. Early life Rafiyath Rameeza was born and raised in the "Rameez family" where several artists including Ali Rameez and Ibrahim Rameez were brought up and "ruled" the music industry. At the age of 12, while studying at Aminiya School, she competed in the Television Maldives Interschool Singing Competition and continued to participate in the same competition for more years. In 1993, at the age of seventeen, while studying at Malé English School, Rameeza performed the song "Kaakuhey Mithaahuree" in the competition which fetched the award for best performer from her age category and was ranked in the second place of the competition. Mohamed Abdul Ghanee
Mohamed Abdul Ghanee (born 15 April 1978), commonly known as Theyravaa is a Maldivian singer and songwriter. Early life and career Born to a musical family, Ghanee had no interest in music even when his siblings spend their time in jamming and singing. While studying at Madhrasathul Ifthithaah, he participated in the Inter-house singing competition, on a request by his elder brother. His performance was well noted by judges and received several prizes. The success was followed by his next performance, the song "Theyravaa" which caught the attention of a member from the local music band Zero Degree Atoll, who insisted him to perform a different version of the song in the ''Fannaanunge Muzikee Eid Show'' (1992). Mariyam Shakeela is a Maldivian film actress. Career 1992–2007: Early releases After completing her education in MCS and EPS, Shakeela married to comedian Yoosuf Rafeeu who was then a producer and news presenter at Television Maldives. A week after their marriage, Rafeeu requested her to feature in a film for a replacement of an actor who opted out of the film due to personal reasons. At the age of fifteen, she made her screen debut with the film ''Dhon Sanpa'', whose performance was well noted by critics and audiences.
