2022–23 Maryland Terrapins Men's Basketball Team
The 2022–23 Maryland Terrapins men's basketball team represented the University of Maryland, College Park in the 2022–23 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. They were led by first-year head coach Kevin Willard. They played their home games at Xfinity Center in College Park, Maryland, as members of the Big Ten Conference. With a new head coach and coming off their first losing season in 29 years, the bar for this group was quite low. However, thanks to a dominant 8-0 start, dominating wins over Miami and Saint Louis, and a home win against a ranked conference foe Illinois, they reached as high as #13 in the AP poll. They did suffer some lopsided losses but played exceptionally well at home; they were the only team in the BIG 10 to have a perfect home record in the conference, where they finished 11-9 in a 3-way tie for fifth place. Kevin Willard
Kevin Schreiber Willard (born April 6, 1975) is an American college basketball coach and the current head men's basketball coach at the University of Maryland. Willard played basketball at Western Kentucky during the 1992–93 season (his freshman year) before transferring to Pittsburgh to finish his playing career. Willard started his coaching career in the NBA ranks, working on the bench with coach Rick Pitino of the Boston Celtics. After Pitino resigned from the Celtics in 2001, Willard followed him to Louisville, and spent the next six years there as his assistant. He is the former head coach of Iona College, where he took over the reins after Jeff Ruland was fired after going 2–28 in 2007. Willard came to Iona after spending ten years as an assistant under Rick Pitino. In his third season with Iona, Willard led the Gaels to the 14th 20-win season in program history. Danny Manning
Daniel Ricardo Manning (born May 17, 1966) is an American college basketball coach and former professional player who is the Associate Head Mens Basketball Coach at the University of Louisville. Manning played high school basketball at Walter Hines Page High School in Greensboro, North Carolina, as well as Lawrence High School in Lawrence, Kansas. He played college basketball for the Kansas Jayhawks, and played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for 14 years. After retiring from professional basketball Manning became an assistant coach at his alma mater, the University of Kansas. He won the national championship with the Jayhawks in 1988 as a player, and again as an assistant in 2008. He is the all-time leading scorer in Kansas basketball history with 2,951 points. Atléticos de San Germán is a basketball club of the Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN) based in San Germán, Puerto Rico. Eric Ayala (born January 2, 1999) is a Puerto Rican professional basketball player for Keflavík in the Icelandic top-tier Úrvalsdeild karla. He played college basketball for Maryland. Daron "Fatts" Russell (born May 6, 1998) is an American basketball player for the Galatasaray Nef of the Basketbol Süper Ligi and the Basketball Champions League. He played college basketball for four years for Rhode Island, and after graduating he played one season for the Maryland Terrapins. The Missouri State Bears basketball team is the NCAA Division I men's basketball program of Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri. The Bears compete in the Missouri Valley Conference.
