2022 UK Open
The 2022 Cazoo UK Open was a darts tournament staged by the Professional Darts Corporation. It was the twentieth year of the tournament where players compete in a single elimination tournament to be crowned champion. The tournament returned to Butlin's Minehead, England, between 4–6 March 2022, having been held behind closed doors at the Marshall Arena, Milton Keynes in 2021 owing to the COVID-19 pandemic. James Wade was the defending champion after defeating Luke Humphries 11–5 in the 2021 final, but he lost 10–4 to Keane Barry in the quarter-finals. Danny Noppert won his first PDC major tournament, beating Michael Smith 11–10 in the final after Smith had a dart for the title. Noppert's average of 84.82 was the lowest winning average in a straight start format in a PDC major, and the second-lowest winning average overall ahead of Alan Warriner-Little's 83.25 in the 2001 World Grand Prix. Butlin's Minehead
Butlins Resort Minehead is a holiday camp operated by Butlins, located in Minehead in Somerset, England. It opened in 1962 and remains in use today. It was known as Butlin's Minehead until 1987, and as Somerwest World from then until 1999, when it reopened as Butlins Minehead Resort. History In the winter of 1961, Billy Butlin began work on creating a holiday camp in Minehead. The site was selected because of its flatness, good rail links, and proximity to the town and sea. The site was not without its problems, however, including flooding. In order to solve this, a trench was excavated around the site and an earth wall constructed. The trench later became the site's boating pond. The site opened to the public on 26 May 1962, the construction having cost £2 million. Michael Smith (born 18 September 1990) is an English professional darts player. Nicknamed "Bully Boy", he plays in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events, where he is the reigning World Champion and World No. 1, having won the 2023 World Championship. Michael Unterbuchner (born 23 May 1988) is a German darts player who plays in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. He reached the semi-finals of the BDO World Championship on two of his three appearances. Career In 2017, Unterbuchner reached the last 48 of the World Masters. Boris Koltsov (russian: Борис Сергеевич Кольцов; born 10 September 1988) is a Russian darts player who plays in events of the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). Career BDO In September 2014, Koltsov reached the semi-finals of the WDF Europe Cup beating Jeffrey Van Egdom, Remco van Eijden, Thomas Junghans, Daniel Larsson and Ross Montgomery along the way before losing to Darius Labanauskas 6–3. List Of Players With A 2022 PDC Tour Card
A 2022 Tour Card is needed to compete in Professional Darts Corporation ProTour tournaments. In total 128 players are granted Tour Cards, which enables them to participate in all Players Championships and European Tour Qualifiers. Most Tour Cards are valid for 2 years. The top 64 in the PDC Order of Merit all receive Tour Cards automatically, and those who won a two-year card in 2021 still had a valid card for 2022. The top player from the European and UK branches of the 2021 Challenge Tour and Development Tour received cards automatically. The remaining places were awarded at the 2022 Q-Schools, with the final four days of competition awarding two Tour Cards per day from the UK Q-School and one a day from the European Q-School; with the remaining players being ranked and the top players also receiving Tour Cards. Mensur Suljović (Serbian Cyrillic: Менсур Суљовић; born 5 March 1972) is an Austrian professional darts player. He plays in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events, having previously played in the British Darts Organisation (BDO). Adam Gawlas (born 18 February 2002) is a Czech professional darts player who plays in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. Career Gawlas qualified for his first PDC European Tour tournament in mid-2019, when he qualified for the 2019 Austrian Darts Championship, and he defeated Ross Smith in the first round, before losing to eventual champion Mensur Suljović in the second round. José Antonio Justicia Perales (born 6 January 1989) is a Spanish darts player. Career Justicia started his career in 2009 and participated in PDPA Players Championship events in Gibraltar and Nuland. At the end of the year, he attempted to qualify through PDC World Spain Qualifying Event for 2010 PDC World Darts Championship, but lost in the quarterfinal phase to Francisco Ruiz.
